Rob Gronkowski made a key play in the AFC Championship Game to help the Patriots hold off the Chiefs to advance to Super Bowl 53. But Gronk has also had a down year by his standards so how should bettors play some of the tight end’s props for Super Bowl Sunday?

According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetNow.eu, the Patriots are 2.5-point favorites to beat the Rams. The total, meanwhile, sits at 56.5 points. As of this writing, 78% of the public betting tickets are on the Patriots to cover the point spread.

Gronkowski played in just 13 games in 2018, recording 47 receptions for 683 yards and three touchdowns. Not including his injury-plagued 2016 season in which he caught just 25 passes in eight games, it was Gronk’s lowest reception, yardage and touchdown totals in five seasons. He only caught one pass for 25 yards against the Chargers in the Divisional round but was targeted 11 times in the AFC title game versus the Chiefs, recording six catches for 79 yards.

Gronk recorded just 3.62 receptions per game this season, as well as 52.46 yards per contest and 0.23 touchdowns per game. When he was healthy, he did play 91.78% of the Patriots’ offensive snaps so it wasn’t as if he didn’t play much, he just had a down season. Some have speculated that this could be Gronkowski’s final game.

The Rams don’t really have a defender that can match-up with Gronk 1-on-1 but he’s not the player he used to be either. I predict the Pats will rely on Julian Edelman, James White and Sony Michel to do most of the damage versus the Rams and thus, Gronk will be an afterthought in the offense much like he was versus the Chargers in the Divisional round. I like the under for some of his key props.
