Public Betting Trends

According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetNow.eu, the Patriots are 2.5-point favorites to beat the Rams. The total, meanwhile, sits at 56.5 points. As of this writing, 79% of the public betting tickets are on the Patriots to cover the point spread.

Player Snapshot

In his first season with the Rams, Cooks played in all 16 games, catching 80 passes on 117 targets for 1,204 yards and five touchdowns. While his touchdowns were down (Cooks caught at least seven touchdowns in each of his previous three seasons), the 1,204 yards were a career-high and his 80 receptions were second behind his 84 catches in 2015 with the Saints. In two playoff wins against the Cowboys and Saints, Cooks caught 11 passes for 172 yards on 14 targets.

Brandin Cooks Super Bowl Prop Predictions

Cooks averaged 5.0 receptions, 75.25 receiving yards and 0.31 receiving touchdowns during the regular season. He also saw, on average, 7.25 targets per game and finished with a 15.05 yards-per-reception average per contest as well.

Brandin Cooks Total Receptions: O/U 5.5

Brandin Cooks Total Receiving Yards: O/U 74.5

Brandin Cooks Total Receiving Yards on First Reception: O/U 12.5

Brandin Cooks Longest Reception: O/U 24.5

Brandin Cooks Will he Have a RUSHING Attempt: Yes (10/13); No (1/1)

Brandin Cooks Will he Score a FIRST HALF Touchdown: Yes (3/1); No (1/4)

Cooks is viewed as the Rams’ deep threat and yes, he is a threat to beat opponents vertically. That said, if you look at his game log, you’ll see something interesting. In his first eight games, Cooks’ longest reception per contest averaged 37.75 yards. In his last nine games, including postseason matchups versus the Cowboys and Saints, Cooks’ longest reception per contest averaged 22.3 yards. Why? Because Cooper Kupp tore his ACL in Week 10 and it changed some of what the Rams do offensively. Even though he can get loose for a big play at any point, one of the stronger Cooks prop bets for Super Bowl 53 is the under for longest reception.

I also like the over 5.5 for number of receptions, as he went over that mark in close games against the Saints, Eagles, Chiefs and Seahawks since mid-November. When the game is tight, the Rams find ways to get Cooks the ball and I expect Super Bowl 53 to be close as well.

Brandin Cooks Total Receptions: Over 5.5

Brandin Cooks Longest Reception: Under 24.5
