Sam Darnold completed 16-of-32 passes for 175 yards and two touchdowns in the Jets' Week 16 win over the Browns. With the Browns missing six key contributors on offense, the Jets pulled off their second-straight upset of 2020. New York handed Jacksonville the 2021 No. 1 overall pick with the win, but Darnold certainly doesn't care about that. In fact, this win increased his odds of staying as the Jets starter next season. The front office will now have to weigh Darnold with the non-Trevor Lawrence quarterbacks in the upcoming draft. Darnold has one more chance at showing why he deserves a shot with a new coaching staff.

Patriots coach Bill Belichick "would imagine" Cam Newton starts Week 17 against the Jets. "We're going through that right now," Belichick said Tuesday. "We'll see." Newton was benched in the third quarter of Monday evening's blowout loss to the Bills. When asked to assess Newton's poor performance, Belichick said "I thought he did what we asked him to do." Newton's once prodigious arm strength has appeared completely shot in the second half of the season. The problem, of course, is that Jarrett Stidham still appears to be an even worse option. Newton at least still keys the ground game. Belichick will probably let Newton start what will almost certainly be his final game in a Patriots uniform, one that is winnable against the 2-13 Jets.

Jets vs. Patriots Betting Prediction

The home team is 8-3-1 against the spread in the last 12 meetings between these two teams while the Patriots have covered in 23 of their last 32 opportunities versus a team with a losing record. They’re also 6-2 against the number in their last eight games played in the month of January and are 11-5 against the spread in their last 16 games after allowing less than 150 yards passing in their previous contest. The Jets, meanwhile, are just 5-13 against the spread in their last 18 AFC East games, are 2-6 against the number in their last eight games as a road underdog and are 2-5 at the betting window in their last seven games versus an opponent with a losing record.
