Elliott opens as Heisman favorite
LAS VEGAS, NV (TheSpread) – There will be plenty of talented college football players returning in the 2015 NCAA season. Which one do oddsmakers see as the Heisman Trophy favorite next season?
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Ohio State running back Ezekiel Elliott is the favorite to win the honor, as he currently has 6/1 odds. Mississippi State QB Dak Prescott and LSU RB Leonard Fournette are next with 7/1 odds each.
Elliott rushed for 1,878 yards and 18 touchdowns during the season for Ohio State and he was unstoppable toward the end of the year. Elliott rushed for 220 yards or more in the Big Ten Championship, Sugar Bowl and CFP Championship Game, also scoring eight times in the three contests.
Prescott was an early Heisman favorite this past season as Mississippi State started out fast. The quarterback threw for 3,449 yards and 27 touchdowns while rushing for 986 yards and 14 touchdowns this season. He capped his season by throwing for 453 yards and three touchdowns in the Orange Bowl vs. Georgia Tech.
Fournette rushed for 1,034 yards and 10 touchdowns last season for LSU. The freshman had some games where he never got going, but had five games of over 100 yards, including 146 yards in the season finale vs. Texas A&M and 143 yards in the Music City Bowl vs. Notre Dame.
