From Rotoworld: Cahill allowed one run on eight hits over 6 2/3 innings in Sunday’s win over the Giants. Cahill was hittable in this one, but the Giants were able to do next-to-nothing in terms of run-scoring output. The lone run to score on his watch came when Brandon Crawford burned him for an RBI double in the second inning. Outside of that hit, he kept the scoreboard free-and-clear of damage. The right-hander struck out eight and walked one on the afternoon. Cahill will carry a 3.14 ERA and 1.24 WHIP into a road date with these same Giants next time he takes to the mound.
Samardzija allowed seven runs on nine hits over six innings in Sunday’s loss to the Padres. Samardzija entered Sunday’s game holding a 4.58. That jumped to 4.86 in this disaster of an outing. The Padres scored four off him in the first innings, with three of those coming on a home run by Hector Sanchez. The home run would plague Samardzija once more in the third, when Cory Spangenberg clocked yet another three-run shot off the veteran. If there was one positive takeaway from this start, it was that the right-hander struck out eight without walking a batter. A potential trade candidate at the deadline, Samardzija will look for sharper results in a home start against these same Padres in his next scheduled outing.

OUR PREDICTION: The Padres have won five of their last six games against the Giants, are 6-2 in Cahill’s last eight starts, and have won five of their last seven games versus a right-handed starter. On the other side, the Giants are 2-5 in Samardija’s last seven starts, are 4-11 in his last 15 home outings, and are 3-13 in his last 16 starts when he pitches the second game of a series.
