Yankees' Sabathia scuffles in Baltimore
CC Sabathia didn’t have it Monday in Baltimore, getting touched up for five runs over five-plus innings in a loss. Sabathia was teetering most of the night before Danny Valencia delivered a knockout blow with a three-run homer in the sixth inning. A Neil Walker misplay that was somehow ruled a double prior to the dinger didn’t help, but there’s no getting around that Sabathia struggled in this one. He gave up seven hits – including a pair of home runs – while walking three. It was the big lefty’s shortest start since late May. Sabathia will try to bounce back this weekend in his old stomping grounds in Cleveland.
Indians' Clevinger allows five earned runs in loss to Reds
Mike Clevinger surrendered five earned runs over six innings Monday in a loss to the Reds. Clevinger struck out 11 batters, but he also issued three walks and gave up seven hits as he fell to 7-4 on the year and his ERA jumped from 3.11 to 3.34. The 27-year-old right-hander has struggled a little more lately with preventing the longball, but his overall numbers still look pretty excellent. Up next is a start at home against the homer-happy Yankees
MLB Betting Trends
New York
The Yankees are 52-23 in their last 75 games overall.
Cleveland
The Indians have dropped five of their last seven games.
Prediction:
The Yankees are playing better ball than their host tonight but I see value in the Indians. The Yankees are just 1-4 in Sabathia's last five road starts and have dropped four of his last five outings coming off four days of rest. The Indians, meanwhile, are 10-4 in their last 14 games coming off a win and 18-7 in their last 25 home games when facing a left-handed starter.
The Pick: Cleveland Indians -107
