UFC 70 odds

Considered one of the most dominant heavyweights in all of Mixed Martial Arts, Mirko Cro Cop will square off in only his second UFC fight this Saturday evening against underdog Gabriel Gonzaga at “UFC 70: When Nations Collide”. Even though this is just his second fight with the UFC, the former Croatian police officer is not a stranger to MMA. With a career record of 22-4-2 the 32 year old Cro Cop fought in K-1 and Pride for years. With a background in kickboxing, Cro Cop owns some of the best knockout power in the sport. Cro Cop’s opponent, Gonzaga is a Jiu-Jitsu specialist with a 7-1 MMA record (3-0 in the UFC). With Cro Cop’s resume, it is no surprise that he is the heavy favorite. Much is at stake in this fight as it is believed that the winner will get a crack at current Heavyweight Champion Randy Couture.

Saturday’s fight will be the classic “striker versus grappler”. It will be imperative for Gonzaga to get this fight on the ground as soon as possible to avoid Cro Cop’s arsenal of kicks and punches. If Gonzaga does manage to get the fight on the ground, Cro Cop has proven himself to very effective on the ground over the years. Despite Cro Cop’s advantages, MMA has proven to be a sport where heavy underdogs do surprise. Look no further than Matt Serra’s shocking 1st round TKO over Georges St. Pierre just a few weeks back.

Saturday night’s card will feature other big time fights including: one time UFC Heavyweight Champion Andrei Arlovski as he takes on up and comer Fabricio Werdum. Yet another feature fight pits “The Ultimate Fighter Season 2” Lightheavyweight winner Michael Bisbing against UFC veteran Elvis Sinosic.

As the UFC takes the MMA world by storm, Saturday’s event will take place from the M.E.N. Arena in England. MMA is already considered the fastest growing sport in the U.S., with the purchase of Pride to go along with international events, it is obvious that the UFC management is set on taking on the world. As an extra bonus to UFC fans, this weekend’s event will be televised for free on Spike.
