NFL PLAY ON Green Bay -8.5 over Detroit, Sunday at 1:00 PMET
We think there is very little chance of Detroit showing up and playing well in this game. They had their last hurrah last week in a home game vs Minnesota. If they were going to give everything they have, that would have been the game. They jumped out to a 9-0 lead and then were outscored 27-0 from that point on in a blowout loss at home. Now traveling to cold Green Bay (28 degrees at kickoff) we look for a team that just wants to get in and get out as quickly as possible. Green Bay, on the other hand, has shown some fight since the firing of Mike McCarthy. Our word is the players, including Aaron Rodgers, really like Joe Philbin and want him to get the head job. Last week they trailed the Jets 35-20 in the 2nd half and they could have just laid down in what looked like a meaningless game. Instead the Packers rallied for an OT win and now you can bet they will give it all in their final home game on Sunday. Also, the OT win was a bit deceiving as the Packers completely dominated the stats outgaining the Jets by 175 yards. When these two met in Detroit this year, the Lions came out on top 31-23 but the Packers outgained the Lions 521 to 284 in that game. We don’t anticipate Detroit’s offense doing much of anything here as they’ve been terrible down the stretch. They haven’t topped 22 points in their last 9 games and they are averaging only 15 PPG during that stretch. They’ve only topped 5 YPP twice in their last 8 games. The Green Bay offense has shown signs of life scoring 34 & 44 in 2 of their last 3 games with their only down performance vs Chicago’s top notch defense. Detroit is just 2-25 SU their last 27 trips to Lambeau and we like the Packers by double digits here.
