JACK BRAYMAN

My free play for Sunday is on the ice, and no I don't mean in Kansas City, where the Chiefs and New England Patriots will be playing in 20-degree weather. I'm talking the Big Apple, where the Anaheim Ducks visit the New York Islanders. And I like the Isles to blow this one wide open.

Both teams carry winning streaks into Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, N.Y., but I'm not that convinced with the Ducks. They'll fade, because they're not that good of a hockey team. The Islanders, who earned their fourth straight win Friday night, a 2-0 victory over the visiting Washington Capitals, could see the postseason.

New York's win Friday was the 14th in its last 17 games since Dec. 15.

As of now, the Islanders are in first place in the Metropolitan Division with 60 points, ahead of the defending Stanley Cup champion Capitals. And remember, this is a team that was supposed to be an also-ran after losing John Tavares via free agency to the Toronto Maple Leafs. But coach Barry Trotz - who led the Caps to their title last season - has to be the leading candidate for the Jack Adams Award with the job he's done.

New York allowed the most goals in the NHL last year (296), but comes into this game having allowed the fewest (119) thus far.

And today at home the Islanders will stifle the same Ducks team that from Dec. 18 through Jan. 15, lost a franchise-record 12 straight games (0-8-4). The only reason the Ducks are in the thick of the wild card race in the Western Conference is because the entire conference is competitive, and the top teams can't break away after playing one another.

The only thing Anaheim has going for it this season is All-Star goalie John Gibson, who started yesterday, making 29 saves in a win over the New Jersey Devils. He has stopped 66 of 68 shots in Anaheim's last two wins. But Gibson was also the goalie of record in 10 of the 12 losses.

Sorry, but the Islanders have impressed me more this season, and will dominate this game.

3* ISLANDERS PUCK LINE

Real brief here on my free winner for you, as I like the Iona Gaels to get it done on the road at Monmouth, against a Hawks team that has struggled this season.

Iona holds an 10-5 series lead following its win in New Rochelle 17 days ago, a 103-84 demolition. It was the only game the Gaels - who are also experiencing a down season - have scored triple digits.

And quite frankly I don't think the Hawks have anyone to contain Rickey McGill or E.J. Crawford, who rank second and third in scoring in MAAC games, respectively.

McGill is tenacious at both ends, scoring 20.4 points per game on offense and ranking first in the league with 2.8 steals per game. He leads all guards with 59.7 percent shooting from the field.

Crawford averages 19.8 points per game, and has recorded 20+ points in his last eight games.

Look for that scoring duo to pace the Gaels, as they roll to the road win and cover.

3* IONA

Illinois vs. Iowa

Dave’s Sunday Free Play:

1* on Illinois +9

The Key: Illinois has played one of the toughest schedules in the country, which is the biggest reason for their 5-12 record. They led in the second half in most of those losses, too, but they just haven’t been able to close out games. They don’t need to win this game to cover as they are getting 9 points from Iowa, which is getting too much respect from oddsmakers now are winning 9 of their last 10 overall coming in. Iowa is 0-7 ATS in home games with a total of 155 to 159.5 over the last 3 seasons. Take Illinois.

Monmouth+2

On Sunday afternoon in college basketball, Play Against teams when the line is +3 to -3 like Iona who is allowing 77+ points/game on the season, after scoring 85 points or more in three straight games. In the last five years, teams like Iona are 6-27 ATS!

Hornets vs. Pacers
Pacers-7.5

Take the Indiana Pacers minus the points versus the Charlotte Hornets. Indiana (30-15) looks to build off their 111-99 win over Dallas yesterday as a 7.5-point favorite. The Pacers have covered the point spread in 5 of their last 7 games when playing without a day of rest. Indiana has also played 4 of their last 5 home games against teams with a winning percentage below 40% on the road. Charlotte (22-23) has won three straight games with their 135-115 win over Phoenix as a 7-point favorite yesterday. The Hornets have failed to cover the point spread in 5 of their last 7 games after a point spread victory. Charlotte has also failed to cover the point spread in 7 of their last 9 games on the road. Lay the points with Indiana. Best of luck — Frank.

Suns vs. Wolves

1 Unit FREE PLAY on Minnesota Timberwolves -12

It’s a good spot for the Timberwolves to get back on track with a blowout win over the worst team in the Western Conference in the Phoenix Suns tonight. They Timberwolves have lost two straight, but they are rested as this will be just their 2nd game in 5 days. The Suns are playing for a second consecutive night after losing 115-135 in Charlotte last night. They won’t have much gas left, and making matters worse is the fact that DeAndre Ayton came down with an ankle injury that leaves his status in question. Minnesota is 9-1 ATS in home games after a combined score of 215 points or more in two straight games this season. The Timberwolves are 8-1 ATS in home games against terrible defensive teams that allow 110 or more points per game this season. The home team is 9-4-1 ATS in the last 14 meetings. Give me the Timberwolves.
