Dallas awarded Super Bowl XLV
May 22nd, 2007

Nashville, TN (Sports Network) - NFL owners have awarded Super Bowl XLV to Dallas.

A new stadium currently under construction for the Dallas Cowboys in the suburb of Arlington, Texas will be the site for the Super Bowl after the 2010 season. The $1 billion stadium, which is expected to seat more than 100,000 fans, is scheduled to open for the 2009 season.

According to the NFL's web site, league owners, meeting in Nashville, voted for Dallas over Indianapolis and Glendale, Arizona.

Indianapolis also has a new stadium set to open for the 2008 campaign, while Glendale's new stadium opened last year and is already set to host Super Bowl XLII after the upcoming season.

Super Bowl XLIII after the 2008 campaign will be held in Tampa and Miami will host Super Bowl XLIV after the 2009 season.

The Dallas area has never previously hosted a Super Bowl, but the state of Texas has twice staged the big game. Both games were in Houston -- after the 1973 at Rice Stadium and after the 2003 campaign at Reliant Stadium.
