NCAAM 7-Star Best bet on the East Carolina Bearcats

The Cincinnati Bearcats will take to the road to looking to stay in a dead heat with the No. 20 Houston Cougars when they take on the East Carolina Pirates in American Athletic Conference action. The Bearcats are on the bubble and rank 42nd overall among the 353 Division-1 programs in the nation in my quant rankings. So, the pressure is on in each game from here on out to the end of the regular season. They know that they have resume building games coming up against the Wichita Stat Shockers and the Cougars in each of the next two weeks. The letdown cloud could move over the Bearcats in this game against the Pirates.

The Pirates are not as bad a team as their record indicates. They lack the depth that other winning record teams and play through Sophomore forward Jayden Gardner, who is averaging 20.2 points-per-game and 9.7 boards-per-game – both team-highs. However, a pair of freshman are stepping up in recent games and making for a more balanced offensive attack. Guard Tristen Newton and forward Brandon Suggs are the two freshman and both have upped their scoring averages to 10 points-per-game. Newton has the size and length at 6-5 to overcome the Bearcats suffocating defense.

This has been a rebuilding year for the Pirates as they have only 26.7% of the minutes played and 39.6% of the points scored returning from last season. They have played enough games together to now have the team chemistry to go after soe of the big-boys, like the Bearcats, in the AAC conference.

HERE ARE SOME BUZZER BEATER TRENDS

The Bearcats are 7-20 ATS after having on three of their last four games in games played over the last two seasons.

The Bearcats are 91-136-1 ATS after failijg to cover the spread in two of their last three games in games played over the last two seasons.

The Bearcats are 1-9 ATS after 5 straight games forcing opponent to commit 14 or less turnovers over the last 2 seasons.

Take the East Carolina Pirates and look for this game to be a closely contested game right to the end.

The All-Star Game usually has plenty of points but there is a new format this year. The teams will try to win each quarter for charity and then the fourth quarter will be untimed until one team scores 24 (Kobe's number).

Hopefully, there be less than 300 points scored on Sunday night as we see some defense played at certain times.

Play - California (Game 854).

Edges - Bears: the host team in Cal games is 14-7 ATS this season with the Bears 4-2 ATS home in conference play … Sun Devils: 0-4 SUATS in this series when coming off a SU underdog win … With the Bears home off a 16-point home loss and ASU off an upset win, we recommend a 1* play on California. Thank you and good luck as always.

Arizona State -5

This play just missed out on our premium card. The Arizona State Sun Devils and Cal Golden Bears face off Sunday and the value lies with favorites.

The Sun Devils come into this game hot having won four games in a row and they covered the spread in three of those games.

Over the last five games the Sun Devils are averaging 75.2 points per game, while the GOlden Bears are averaging only 60.6 points.

The Sun Devils offense will run up the score. The road team si 23-11 ATS in the last 24 meetings played between the two squads.

The No. 17 Iowa Hawkeyes are an underdog when visiting the unranked Minnesota Golden Gophers in Big Ten action Sunday afternoon, and I'm happy to take the points in the ranked team in this matchup.

The Hawkeyes won the first meeting of the season 72-52 as a 5-point favorite back in December. They've split their last six games after taking an 89-77 loss at Indiana last time out, and we can note that Iowa is 6-1 SU and ATS following a loss this season.

As for the Golden Gophers, they've lost three of their last four and failed to cover the spread in all losses. While they've been dominant at home all season, I think the Gophers will struggle to contain Iowa's explosive offense which ranks 22nd in the nation for points per game.

Free pick on Iowa.

Easy complimentary winner Saturday—my fourth in the last six days—as Penn State (4♦) routed Northwestern. For Sunday’s freebie in college hoops, we’ll lay the price with Villanova over Temple in the annual clash of Philadelphia rivals.

It certainly wasn’t easy, but Villanova snapped its season-long three-game losing skid Tuesday with a 72-71 victory over Marquette. Unfortunately, the Wildcats never came close to covering as a 5½-point home favorite, dropping them to 0-3-1 ATS in their last four outings. So why back them today? Two main reasons: First, Villanova has been a moneymaker away from home over the past six weeks, winning at Creighton (64-59 as a 2-point dog), Providence (64-60 as a 3-point chalk) and St. John’s (79-59 as a 3-point favorite), while falling at Butler (79-76, pushing as a 3-point pup).

More importantly, the Wildcats finally get a break in their schedule after four straight games against the upper echelon of the Big East conference: Creighton (tied for 2nd place, with Nova), Butler (5th), Seton Hall (1st) and Marquette (4th). Today, they play their annual Big 5 rivalry game against non-conference foe Temple, which is 13-10 overall, including 5-7 in the American Conference (good for seventh place).

The Owls are coming off consecutive wins over SMU at home and Tulane on the road, but they needed overtime to take down SMU and barely squeaked past Tulane 72-68 as a 4-point favorite. Prior to this mini two-game positive run, Temple had dropped eight of 10, including ugly losses to Tulsa (70-44), Tulane (65-51), SMU (68-52) and Memphis (79-65).

Finally, this heated rivalry has been completely one-sided in recent years, with Nova not only winning the last six meetings and not only cashing in all six (all as an 8-point favorite or more), but winning each game by double digits. Average margin of victory during this six-game run: 17.7 points per game, including wins by 20, 16 and 16 points in their last three visits to Temple!

Sunday comp play from the City of Brotherly Love as I back Villanova in their Big Five/City Series meeting with Temple.

The Wildcats have not exactly been "sharp" lately, as they just ended a 3 game losing streak with a slim one-point home win over Marquette, but Jay Wright's team is still 18-6 on the year and they have absolutely owned today's opponent.

The Owls come in riding back-to-back comeback wins over SMU in overtime and a dreadful Tulane team to improve to 13-11 on the season.

First year coach Aaron McKie has had his ups and downs with his alma mater and he will attempt to do something better Temple editions under Fran Dunphy could not do - win a game over Villanova.

The Wildcats have won each of the last 6 series meetings between these Philadelphia schools and they have covered in all 6, as each of the margins has come by double-digits!

Kinda hard to look past the series domination no matter how shaky the 'Cats are playing right now.

Go ahead and lay the wood with Villanova on Sunday afternoon.

Still plenty of work that needs to be done for Gregg Marshall's Wichita State team, as the Shockers brutal 3 losses in a row - by 3 points at Tulsa, by 1 point at home to Cincinnati and by a whopping 33 points at Houston - were not exactly what they needed this late in the season.

True, Wichita State rebounded from their worst effort of the year in that loss at Houston with a nice road win at UCF earlier in the week, as the Shockers regained their shooting eye and posted the 75-58 road victory, but they will need to put their foot on the throat of the backsliding Green Wave this afternoon back on their home court.

Wichita State sports a 13-2 mark on their home court, but have suffered those pair of losses over their last 3 games in their own gym. I get the feeling they are ready to clobber someone today and that someone happens to be a Tulane team that enters having lost 8 straight with just 1 against the spread win in those 8 losses. The Green Wave has not topped 68 points in any of those 8 setbacks and has seen 7 of the 8 setbacks come by double-digits!

Since becoming AAC rivals, Wichita State has won all 3 meetings against Tulane, with the last meeting in Kansas being a 77-62 win last February.

Expect another double-digit victory for the win-seeking 18-6 Wheat Shockers as they look to keep their Big Dance hopes alive and kicking.

Utah vs. Oregon
UNDER 138

Tonight we get a Pac 12 clash between the Utah Utes 14-10 (13-11 ATS) who go on the road to take on the Oregon Ducks. 19-6 (14-11 ATS) Oregon is a big favorite in this matchup favored by -12.5 and the Over/Under is set at 138. Injury update, N'Faly Dante out the last 6 games in a game time decision.

Last game out the Ducks snapped a two-game losing streak by taking down #15 Colorado 68-60 Thursday, tonight the Utes come to town. The Utes have struggled of late, they are in a three-way tie for 8th place in the Pac 12 after getting blown out by the Beavers 70-51 Thursday night. Utah's shooting was horrible on Thursday. 37% from the field and a season low 51 points. The Ducks weren't much better Thursday only shooting 39%.

Utah averages 71PPG, and the Ducks average 75PPG but of late the Ducks have averaged 69PPG in their last 8, and the Utes have averaged 61PPG in their last 8 so the scoring has been dropping as teams have been playing better defense against these clubs. Oregon has been held under 70PPG in their last 3, in their last 5 the Utes have been held in check. Not scoring over 64 in their last 5, with three of those games scoring under 60.

Some trends to consider. The total has gone UNDER in 7 of Utah's last 7 games. The total has gone UNDER in 5 of Utah's last 5 games this season, and last 5 games against an opponent in the Pac-12 conference. Head to head the total has gone UNDER in 6 of Oregon's last 7 games against Utah, and we've seen the UNDER hit in Oregon's last 10 games played in February.

The last time these two met the Ducks prevailed 69-64 in Salt Lake on January 4th. 133 total points in that one, the way these two have played of late we're going to see more of the same.

Play the UNDER 138.

Good Luck, Razor Ray.

Indiana vs. Michigan

1* on Michigan -8

The Key: Michigan just got leading scorer Isaiah Livers (13.4 PPG) back from injury two games ago. He scored 14 points in a 77-68 home win over Michigan State and 17 points in a 79-54 road win at Northwestern. The Wolverines should handle Indiana at home today. The Hoosiers are 1-4 SU & 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall. Indiana is 1-5 SU & 1-5 ATS in Big Ten road games this year with those 5 losses all coming by 9 points or more and by an average of 13.8 PPG. Michigan is 6-0 SU & 6-0 ATS in its last 6 matchups with Indiana with each of the last 5 wins coming by 11 points or more. Take Michigan.

Cincinnati vs. East Carolina

1* NCAAB - Free Pick on East Carolina Pirates +10½

This is an ideal situation to back East Carolina as a double-digit home dog against the Bearcats. These two teams played earlier at Cincinnati and the Bearcats posted a 25-point blowout win. That's definitely playing into the value with the number this time around.

As is the fact that Cincinnati comes in off a huge win against Memphis and have now won 6 of their last 7 overall. What the public will fail to account for is that both of the Bearcats last two games went to OT. Last Sunday they lost 71-72 at UConn and then their 92-86 OT win against Memphis on Thursday.

If there's a game that Cincinnati is going to just go through the motions, it's this one, especially with it being on the road. Bearcats are 4-11 ATS last 15 on the road, 7-19 ATS last 26 off a SU win and 3-10 ATS last 13 on the road vs a team with a winning home record. Take ECU!

Missouri State vs. Indiana State

Jack’s Free Pick Sunday: Indiana State -3

We’re getting excellent value on Indiana State as only a 3-point home favorite over Missouri State in MVC action Sunday. The Sycamores are coming off back-to-back road losses at Illinois State and Bradley, so it’s a good time to ‘buy low’ on them.

Now Indiana State is back home where they have one of the best advantages in the Missouri Valley. Indeed, the Sycamores are a perfect 10-0 SU at home this season. That includes 6-0 SU & 5-1 ATS at home in MVC play with Indiana State outscoring its opponents by an average of 14.5 points per game.

It’s a good time to ’sell high’ on Missouri State after they went 2-1 SU & 3-0 ATS in their last three games coming in, including a blowout of Drake last time out at home. But the Bears are just 2-8 SU in true road games this season with their two wins coming against the two worst teams in the MVC in Evansville (0-13) and Illinois State (3-11).

Indiana State is 8-1 ATS in its last nine games off two or more consecutive ATS losses. Missouri State is 8-21 ATS in its last 29 games off three or more consecutive ATS wins. The Sycamores are 7-1 ATS in their last eight home games vs. a team with a road winning percentage of less than 40%. Bet Indiana State Sunday.

I noticed that once I put my winning streak with complimentary plays in this section, I've lost four or five in a row - I lost count. That's why it doesn't pay to brag. So forget about the run I'm on with college comps, just take the Iona Gaels laying the number to the Marist Red Foxes.

The Gaels are having an uncharcteristically bad season by their standard, as they're 8-12 overall and 6-7 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play. They're usually a team that runs through the season with double digits in the in column. This season has been a struggle.

Until lately.

The Gaels have won three in a row - all by double digits - and should have no trouble winning their fourth straight against a much worse Marist team that is just 6-16 overall and 5-8 in league play.

And history dictates this should go one way, as Iona holds a 48-18 overall advantage and has won 18 of the last 21 meetings.

Iona shoots the ball much better, firing a 43.2% clip from the floor, while Marist is shooting just 38.3% from the field. I normally don't talk much about free throws, but in this case I will considering the Red Foxes are on the road and it could be loud inside the Hynes Center. Marist shoots 64.0% from the charity stripe, and that's just horrible.

With an overall better roster, and the home team covering 5 of the last 6 meetings, lay the chalk with Iona.
