I won't even bother with a long-winded explanation here, especially since my 300♦ play is on the side in this game, and I don't want to tip my hand. But what I can tell you is these teams meet on Sept. 10 to open the season.
So if anyone believes coaches Jon Gruden and Sean McVoy will tip their hands, you might want to check yourself. These two offensive minded guys know better than to keep their starters out there for more than a couple of series, and they certainly won't be opening up the playbook.
This number started at 39' and has been bet down two points. Don't be surprised if it stays in the 20s, as they'll creep to the finish line.

The Chicago Bears and Denver Broncos are toting one of the biggest totals for a reason, and I think this could be a shootout.
The Bears have two games under their belts, with a tight 17-16 loss to the Baltimore Ravens in the Hall of Fame Game, and a tough 30-27 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals last week. They're going to be looking to find the happy medium with a balanced offense leading the way since that's been the focus this preseason.
Denver is off a 42-28 home loss to the Minnesota Vikings, so the Bears could very well take advantage of the Broncos' defense. Chicago will have to, as the Broncos' potency on offense will be on display in this game.
Count on these two to come out swinging, looking to maake a statement, as the total soars over the posted number.

Take the Chicago White Sox over the Kansas City Royals as my free play tonight.
Don't bother listing pitchers in this one, as it's more about momentum and the White Sox rolling in on a three-game win streak after a 9-3 win last night.
Chicago's power at the plate has been impressive, as the Sox have bombed 138 out of the park, led by Jose Abreu, who has 22 home runs. Tim Anderson has 63 runs and 49 RBIs for the White Sox this season, while Matt Davidson has a .281 batting average, nine hits, two home runs and a .531 slugging percentage over his past 10 games for them.
That won't bode well for a Royals team that has lost seven of 10 and has a staff ERA of 5.16 in that span, while being outscored by 16 runs.

The Orioles are now a ridiculous 50 games under .500 at 36-86. The have gone 1-7 in their last eight games overall and are just playing out the string. The Indians should be able to get to Alex Cobb, who is 3-15 with a 5.24 ERA and 1.49 WHIP in 22 starts this year, including 3-8 with a 5.38 ERA and 1.53 WHIP in 14 road starts. Adam Plutko is 3-0 with a 4.91 EAR and 1.04 WHIP in three home starts for the Indians this season. He has walked just one batter in 18 innings at home and will be taking the place of the injured Trevor Bauer in the rotation. The Orioles are 4-18 in Cobb’s 22 starts this season and losing by 2.9 runs/game. Baltimore is 1-14 in Cobb’s 15 starts vs. an AL team with a batting average of .265 or worse this season and losing by 3.9 runs/game. Give me the Indians on the Run Line.

The Key: The Pittsburgh Pirates will be hungry to end a 5-game losing streak, including losing the first two games of this series to the Cubs by a single run each. They have the edge on the mound today and should get back in the win column because of it. Joe Musgrove is 4-7 with a 3.49 ERA and 1.23 WHIP in 13 starts this year, including a 2.25 ERA and 0.95 WHIP in his last 3 outings. Tyler Chatwood is 4-5 with a 4.88 ERA and 1.78 WHIP in 19 starts for the Cubs. He has walked 85 batters in 94 innings as control has clearly been an issue that he hasn’t been able to fix. Musgrove is 1-1 with a 2.08 ERA in 2 lifetime starts against the Cubs. Chatwood is 0-1 with a 3.71 ERA and 1.47 WHIP in 3 lifetime starts against the Pirates. He faced Pittsburgh once this season and allowed 5 earned runs in 5 innings of a 5-8 loss. Take Pittsburgh.

Today, they send Rich Hill to the bump. The LH is 3-0 with a 1.78 over 5 starts since the All-Star Break. Over his career, the LH is 4-0 with a 0.39 ERA in 6 games (3 starts) at Safeco park. Erasmo Ramirez is 0-2 with a 6.75 record this year. the RH is just 5-5 with a 5.57 mark in 21 IL games (11 starts). The Pirates bats have gone ice cold as they have managed only nine runs during their current five-game losing streak including a pair of 1-0 losses to the Cubs to open this series. To their credit, they have faced some tough pitching along the way and they get a break today in a good spot to break out. Despite the loss last night, the Pirates are 11-4 in their last 15 games when their opponent scores two runs or less in their previous game. Chicago has won three straight games and it now has a 4.5-game lead over Milwaukee in the National League Central. This has not been a good spot as the Cubs are 1-6 in seven games this season after allowing one run or less in two straight games while going 3-11 in their last 14 games coming off two straight road wins against a division rival. Tyler Chatwood gets the ball for Chicago and he will be making his first start since July 26th after making three relief appearances. Overall, he has a 5.06 ERA and 1.80 WHIP and the Cubs have won his last five starts despite him posting a 7.71 ERA over that stretch only because of good run support. That should not happen tonight as Joe Musgrove has been pitching well with four straight quality outings and he has been on the wrong side of run support as he has gotten just three runs over the last three games. Here, we play against teams after shutting out a division rival, starting an over rested pitcher who is working on seven or more days rest.
