A borderline ace versus a borderline fifth starter says it all. Phillies starter Drew Smyly is a relief pitcher forced to start, and the result isn't pretty. In his last two starts he has given up nine earned runs. I don't see Smyly lasting much more than a few innings versus one of the better teams in baseball. I also like the fade against the Phillies here because I feel that this line should be much more in favor of the Cubs, but due to the Phillies' outburst last night, they are the hot commodity for the public. Chicago is the play.

I don't think Chad Green deserves to be a -160 favorite against any team in the MLB, let alone against a team that has been the hottest team in baseball post All-Star break. On the road, the Indians have been lights out recently, winning 14 out of their last 17 games. The last time Adam Plutko faced the Yankees he had a phenomenal outing, giving up just two runs in six innings to MLB's highest-scoring team and getting the win. I like the hot road team in this one.

The Angels got the win last night, but lost the series to the Pirates who were on an eight-game losing streak. All three of those games went Over the total. Reynaldo Lopez comes off a great performance in his last start, allowing no runs in 6.1 innings. I'm on the White Sox to win.
