UCONN Admits To Violations

Hartford, CT - The University Connecticut says its men's basketball program committed major NCAA recruiting violations. The school has imposed sanctions on itself, including two years' probation and a loss of one scholarship for the next two seasons.

Byrd To Miss Season With Foot Surgery

East Lansing, MI - Michigan State freshman forward Russell Byrd might not play this season.

The school expects Byrd to have surgery this week to repair a stress fracture in his left foot. He averaged 19.1 points and 8.3 rebounds for Blackhawk Christian in Fort Wayne, Ind., last season.
The 6-foot-7 Byrd could end up redshirting this year.
Junior guard Korie Lucious had surgery on his left knee last week and is expected to be out for about a month.
Michigan State starts practicing next week and opens the season Nov. 12 at home against Eastern Michigan. The Spartans have appeared in a nation-high six Final Fours over the last 12 years.
