Hollywood Sports

Cleveland at Detroit
Prediction: Over

Cleveland (47-47) begins the second half of the MLB season having played 7 of their last 9 games Over the Total against teams with a winning record. They send out Bauer who has been saddled with a 5.46 ERA, 1.54 WHIP and .303 opponent's batting average when on the road. Additionally, the Indians have played 5 of their last 6 Over the Total as an underdog in the +110 to +150 price range. Detroit (53-38) has played 6 of their last 7 home games Over the Total.

They counter with Sanchez -- and the Tigers have played 5 of their last 7 games Over the Total with the right-hander pitching as a big favorite in the -151 to -200 price range. Lastly, in the last 7 meetings between these two teams, the game finished Over the Total all 7 times. Take the Over in this one.

Colorado Rockies vs. Pittsburgh Pirates
Play: Colorado Rockies +1½ -155

My confidence is still not there in Francisco Liriano (1-7 4.72) or the Pittsburgh Pirates (49-46). In many ways Clint Hurdle should be applauded for the job he's done in 2014, overcoming managements decision to be non-existent during the Winter and juggling the rash of injuries to his pitching staff, which was supposed to be the strength of the Pirates in 2014. Liriano hasn't been close to his 2013 form while battling injuries since Spring Training (groin, strained oblique).  The Pirates will be thrilled with 5-6 innings but there has been very little evidence that they will get that. Liriano has only given the Pirates three quality starts in 15 starts. In his first game back since going on the disabled list June 10th, he walked six in four innings while giving up three earned runs. You'll have a good indication how this play will turn out early because Liriano has a tendency to allow the adrenaline flow too much to start games after being inactive.

The Rockies (40-55) are saying the right things but being 12 games out of a playoff spot is a tough hill to climb. However, if optimism is going to fuel the Rockies through the next month, they know that this series against the Bucs is the start as Colorado gets 3B Nolan Arenado and OF Carlos Rodriguez back tonight.  With the Rockies getting healthy and optimism running at its pique, I'll take the 1.5 runs and the Rockies.

Milwaukee Brewers vs. Washington Nationals
Play: Milwaukee Brewers +156

The simulator shows a high probability that Milwaukee will win this game. As I mentioned in my article posted on the site earlier this week, I strongly believe that Milwaukee will play far better than their 'cliff drop' heading into the break. Granted, that Strasburg is starting for the Nationals, but the Brewers starter Kyle Lohse is darn good in his own right. He has posted a solid money making  31-13 (+17.3 Units) against the money line vs. an NL team with an on base percentage .315 or worse over the last 2 seasons. (Team's Record) and 34-12 (+22.5 Units) against the money line vs. an NL team with a team batting average of .250 or worse over the last 2 seasons. (Team's Record) Moreover, Milwaukee is a solid 24-14 (+14.9 Units) against the money line when the total is 7 or less over the last 2 seasons. Take the Brewers and this generous dog line tonight!

Colorado Rockies vs. Pittsburgh Pirates
Play: Pittsburgh Pirates -149

The Pirates are still in the race for the very tough NL Central crown. The are playing exceptionally well at home going 9-2 their last 11 games. Furthermore, The Rockies are just terrible on the road going 1-9 their last 10. Jorge De La Rosa is also horrendous on the road and the Rockies look like they are going to be a seller for the 2nd half of the season. I trust Liriano much more than De La Rosa.

Simon Green

Orioles vs. Athletics
Play: Over 7

I know that Oakland has premier pitcher Jeff Samardzija pitching tonight but the offenses of both of these clubs are tremendous. Oakland and Baltimore know how to score. Take the over in this one!

Milwaukee Brewers vs. Washington Nationals
Play: Washington Nationals -1.5 +136

Revenge spot for Stephen Strasburg, who has a 2.21 ERA in three starts since getting ripped for seven runs in 4.2 innings of a Miller Park loss versus Milwaukee back on June 25.Strasburg is 6-0 with a 2.13 ERA in his last 10 home starts, a stretch where he's recorded 87 strikeouts and walked just nine batters in 67.2 innings. Milwaukee's 11-2 home win against St. Louis last Sunday was just its second in the past 13 games overall. The Brewers had scored a total of 21 runs while losing their previous seven outings before beating the Cards. Kyle Lohse has a 5.28 ERA in his last five road starts.
