Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Green Bay Packers
Play: Green Bay Packers -1

At this writing there is currently no line on this game. Best information is that Green Bay QB Rodgers is expected to again miss, with QB Flynn slotted to make yet another start. Flynn was solid, if not spectacular, in leading Green Bay from 23 down to the Cowboys for a 37-36 miracle victory that kept alive the Green Bay playoff hopes. Nonetheless, without QB Rodgers, Green Bay is just 1-6 ATS failing to the number by a net of 64 points. No playoff hopes remain for the Steelers who, nonetheless, used special team excellence and a 106-57 advantage at the point of attack for a prideful win in the role of spoiler against division rival Cincinnati. Following their 0-5 SU ATS turnover infested start, the Steelers are actually 6-3 ATS, covering by a net of 42 points with a +7 net turnover margin. A closer inspection of this declining defense shows the decline in the front 7 in their limited number of sacks and takeaways. Numerically, Pittsburgh is just 2-6 ATS following a fight with the Bengals, and just 3-14 ATS on the non-division road. On a cold, windy, snowy afternoon in Green Bay, expect the Packers, who saved their season last week, to get this victory.

John Ryan

Denver Broncos vs. Houston Texans
Play: Houston Texans +11

This is just far too many points given the situation. The simulator shows a high probability that Houston will lose this game by fewer than 10 points. Supporting this graded play is a proven system posting a 36-12 ATS mark for 75% winners since 1983. Play on underdogs or pick (HOUSTON) that is an average offensive team scoring between18 to 23 PPG and is now facing an excellent offensive team scoring >=27 PPG and after scoring 9 points or less last game. I believe that far too much hype is being placed on the fact that Denver lost a game 10 days ago and is going to be in this 'wild' mood to defeat an inferior opponent. One of numerous tools I utilize is betting flows. I monitor 10 of the biggest sports books and monitor the public percentages. In this case, more than 79% of all best are being made on the Denver Broncos. Whenever this rate of irrational exuberance approaches 68% it is a red flag for that team being bet. In this case, we are at an extreme level and certainly supports the play on the Houston. I noted last week, with my 10* NFC Game of the Year winner on Minnesota as they soundly destroyed the Eagles 48-30, that once Gerhart was not active, the public began loading up big on the Eagles pushing that extreme to 78% of all best made. This is just ONE of many tools I use that support the SIM grading. I would never make a wager based on just one indicator or method alone. Wes Welker has ben declared in active for this game as of Friday morning. This is a very significant loss for Denver as they were held to a season-low 18 rushing yards last week after averaging 188.7 in the previous three games. Without Wes Welker and his team-high 18 third-down receptions, the Broncos converted two of nine third downs. I also believe Matt Shaub will have a very strong game against a Denver defense that has gone under the radar. They generally play zone mainly because they have leads, but when forced into more aggressive coverage schemes the weaknesses are magnified. Take Houston

Miami Dolphins vs. Buffalo Bills
Play: Buffalo Bills +3

The Bills are with out their rookie QB, but they proved they can still play winning football without EJ Manuel. This is a divisional game and you have the Dolphins traveling way up north to play the Buffalo Bills. The Bills are always competitive at home and they are a bad match up for the Dolphins because of their excellent pass rush that ranks 2nd in the league vs. the Dolphins offensive line that has proven time and time again can not protect Tannehill. I also think the Dolphins are getting a bit too much credit for their run of late and they are do for a bit of a hang over after the big win over Tom Brady last week.

Dallas and Washington are playing with two bad "efence's" this year. Neither team can't play 'd'. Dallas in its last 5 games has given up 37,45,24,21,49 while Washington has given up in its last 5 games 27,45, 24,27,24. Look for another offensive show by both teams.

Arizona Cardinals vs. Seattle Seahawks
Play: Seattle Seahawks -10

As we head to Seattle in this NFC West battle, I know what you are thinking. How can we back the Seahawks here off a shut-out win and coming home off a cross-country flight. Come on Higgs! Seattle already beat Arizona back in October 34-22. The Cardinals are 10-4 ATS on the year. Division dog getting double digits!

I know. I get it. Seattle is also an impressive 10-4 ATS on the year. But they have been doing it as a heavy face and public darling. This is a legit Super Bowl contender. Super Bowl contenders take care of business and don't get picked off looking ahead. That would have happened last week with Seattle taking on the lowly Giants with this tough division game vs a hot Arizona team on deck. It didn't happen.

I won't take anything away from the Arizona defense. It is a good, solid unit. My issues is with the offense. Primarily, QB Carson Palmer. The guy has been hot the last 5 games, 9TDs just 2INTs. But we can't forget him tossing INTs in 10 straight games! Seattle brings the #1 total defense to the game this afternoon. I am sure the 12th man, will rattle Palmer also. Finally, both Palmer and WR Fitzgerald are a bit banged up. If your best weapon is doing concussion tests, you have a problem.

So the only guy who can possible be an advantage is not at 100%? Every time that Cardinals ventured on the road to face a step up in competition, they have floundered. At New Orleans, at Frisco, at Philly.

Seattle is clearly playing inspired ball and look to be a team on a mission. We will ride the home team here and lay the number.

As dreadful a season as both teams have experienced it’s no surprise that both are mathematically eliminated from the postseason this year. The difference today is Rex Ryan is a dead man walking while Rob Chudzinski is just getting started. Since making the two consecutive appearances in the AFC championship game, the Jets have crashed and burned under Ryan, now missing out on the postseason three straight years. The Flyboys are being out yarded -86 YPG during the since Game Eight of the season, losing the stats in every contest. That makes them a legitimate ‘leaking oil’ favorite and if Ryan can’t smell the fumes now he never will. On the flip side, the 4-10 Browns have gained more yards than they’ve allowed under ‘Chud’ and are 8-1 ATS in games against sub .500 AFC East foes. With the descending Planes 0-6 SUATS the last three seasons against the AFC North, not even a casting call from Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon can save T-Rex. We recommend a 1-unit play on Cleveland.

The Bears and Eagles will square off this Sunday in what promises to be one of the best matchups of the week. These are two of the highest scoring teams in the league and Vegas is expecting fireworks from a totals perspective. Both of these offenses can score points in bunches, and are ranked in the Top 10 in points per game. What makes this game really intriguing is that not only are both offenses top notch, but both defenses are also near the bottom of the barrell. The Bears have been routinely gashed on the ground, as they’ve given up a 100-yard rusher in eight of their last nine games. The Eagles haven’t been much better, especially through the air where they’ve given up big play after big play. Both of these teams are fighting for playoff births, too. The Eagles are in the drivers seat of the NFC East and will win the division if they win out, and the Bears are right in the thick of the NFC North race as well. This might be the biggest game of each of these respective team’s seasons, and a close game will most likely lead to more points on the scoreboard for both teams. This has all the makings of a shootout, both of these teams can score, and neither can defend. It’s anyones guess who will come away with the ATS victory, but the OVER is the clear play in this matchup.

The Titans were beat at home as a 12 point favorite by Jacksonville a few weeks ago and will look to bounce back off a lose loss to Arizona. The Titans are 6-0 ats if they were a home dog last week and have cashed 11 of 13 times if they allowed 35 or more points and are playing with revenge.. The Jaguars will likely lose here today and we note that when they lose at home as a dog they have covered just once in those 20 losses. Tennessee has edges on both sides of the ball and they play much better vs losing teams than they do vs winning teams. The Jaguars are losing by an average 27-12 score here at home this season.

Why are the Ravens only a two-point choice here? We’ll tell you why. It’s because the New England Patriots are the most overvalued and most bet on team in the NFL. All the data is there for the oddsmakers to see and they adjust lines accordingly. Put these same New England players in the uniforms of the Cleveland Browns or Jags, and Baltimore would be a -6 point choice here. We get to take advantage of a bad number and that’s precisely what we’re going to do. The Patriots had the chance to take back home field advantage throughout the playoffs last week while, at the same time, not being Dolphin-safe, by beating Miami they could have all but eliminated them from playoff competition. Instead, the Pats proved that with Rob Gronkowski they can grease out wins but without him, they are a pedestrian team and you can double that sentiment when playing on the road. When we look at the Patriots past three weeks we see a three-point miracle, referee-aided win over the Houston Texans. In that game, New England was flagged for zero penalties. The following week, the Patriots got another miracle one-point, referee-aided win over Cleveland in what some people have called (on that late pass interference) the worst call in the history of football. There was no miracle last week, as the Patriots lost to Miami but prior to the Houston game, another miracle occurred when the Patriots rallied from a huge halftime deficit against Denver to pull out an OT win when the Broncos punt returner fumbled on his own 25-yard line. The New England Patriots have used up all of their miracles.

The NFL is not a defensive league anymore. They are trying to turn it into CFL-like scoring with all rules geared towards helping the offense move the chains and rack up big numbers. Despite that, the Ravens held the potent attack of the Lions last week to just 16 points. The Ravens have also held the Jets to three points, Pittsburgh to 20, the Bengals to 17 and the Bears to 23 all in the past six weeks. And isn’t this the time of year that the Ravens play their best football? Wasn’t it about this time last season that Joe Flacco went on a huge and unstoppable run? Well, the Ravens are showing all the signs again of peaking at the right time again with four straight wins and each one being more impressive than the last. Make the lucky and referee-aided Patriots the Ravens next victim.

There are overreactions and under-reactions to previous games throughout the season and this is a classic case of both. A lot of folks saw the Eagles rally against Detroit in that snowstorm game a couple of weeks ago and were quick to bet them last week as a 4-4½ road favorite against the Vikings. That didn’t turn out well for Eagles backers. This is an under-reaction to that game. How can the Eagles be -4½ road favorites in Minnesota last week and just -3 at home over Chicago the following week?
FOR THE LARGEST SELECTION OF FREE SERVlCE PLAYS VlSlT THESPREAD.COM
Sure, the Bears have won two straight but so what. They defeated the Cowboys and allowed 28 points against and they defeated the Brownies while allowing 31 points. Prior to those two victories, Chicago lost consecutive road games in St. Louis (42-21) and in Minnesota (23-20). The Bears have the worst rushing defense in the league. They’ve allowed teams like the Rams and Cowboys, who have a poor running attack, to have big games on the ground. In 2013, LeSean McCoy has been the best running back in football. He’s had some big games this year but his Week 16 performance could dwarf them all. A focused Philadelphia team, with its creative coach preparing for this one against a college-like defense, is a recipe for a blowout and one we want to be on board for.

Sportsinteraction is offering this one up at +3 +100. If you don’t have an account there and the line where you shop is +2½, we would recommend playing the Redskins on the money line, as we always do when the number is less than three points. This is the NFC East pity party. The 7-7 Cowboys are on a two game losing streak because December is two weeks old. After losing to the Packers who they led by 23 points, the entire team is in disarray and one really has to question the Cowboys collective state of mind. It sure doesn’t help that they will be once again playing in cold weather, where Tony Romo has not thrived. People have created stats to back up the assertion that Tony Romo is a walking Heimlich maneuver. They may have a point. Blowing a 23-point lead is what most were offhandedly chucking, “Classic Romo!” Somewhere Jim Kelly is feeling better about himself. At least his failures came in February, not December and early January but all this blame has to be on the coaching staff, who keep setting up Romo up to fail. How can you explain gashing Green Bay for 93 rushing yards at 8.5 yards per carry, being up 26-3 at the half and handing the rock to Murray for only 7 carries the rest of the game. The next question is how do you rebound from that? We all saw how Dallas looked in its only other cold weather game this season in Chicago and pretty it was not.

As the Redskins season slowly wafts to the bottom of the lake, each week takes a new turn for the worse. Last week it was losing by one point and having Mike Shanahan abruptly leave the post-game press conference the second time a question came regarding his employment or potential lack of it. We forecasted this exact scenario early in the year, even before a single game was played (see our NFL futures) but the good news is Mike Shanahan has nothing left to lose. Shanahan will not be afraid to call an unconventional football game. He’s going to be out of a job anyway and now he’s auditioning for employment elsewhere. Enter Kirk Cousins. Cousins has always been a capable backup that suggests he could be more. In his first start he was facing the horrible Falcons defense but he threw for 381 yards and three scores and this time he is at home against the horrible Cowboys defense. LB Sean Lee is likely out this week for the ‘Boys and that helps all facets of the Skins offense. The Cowboys rank dead last against running backs and quarterbacks. Their last two opponents both threw for 299+ yards and four scores each. The Cowboys are a complete and utter mess after last week’s meltdown (it’s still mind-boggling as to how that happened). Call this the Dysfunction Bowl if you will but we much prefer a Washington team with nothing to lose (free-rolling) against a Dallas squad that is feeling immense pressure and always finds ways to lose when it matters most. ‘Skins outright.

Oakland has been the most non-descript franchise in the NFL for the last decade. If they finish 8-8, the world is stunned. The franchise may have hit bottom in the Black Hole Sunday, allowing 56 points to a Kansas City Chiefs team that wins more games by defense than offense. With the coolest logo in sports history, they should be moving the merchandise like nobody’s business. Nowadays, if you ain’t from Oaktown, you don’t want to be seen in Raiders gear. Still, we can’t get on board with a San Diego team that is coming off one of their biggest wins in a long time in a game they weren’t given a shot in. The Chargers go from 10 point dogs to a 9½-point favorite in the span of one week and that my friends is what is known as a big overreaction. This one was close to making our best bets, as Matthew McGloin is on a four game streak of passing for more than 245 yards and he scored twice on both the Jets and Chiefs. It’s hard to pick against a Cardinals team that’s won six out of seven and is getting more than 10 points but it's also an opportunity to sell high on them. The Seahawks have shown they can make anybody look less than ordinary at home. Away from Seattle, the Seahawks were able to beat the Cardinals by 12. Arizona has a great run defense but Russell Wilson threw for three touchdowns when the teams met in Week Seven. Carson Palmer has thrown at least two interceptions in six games and it wouldn’t be surprising to see that happen against the NFL’s top pass defense. The 12-2 Seahawks can wrap up the #1 seed this week, they’re 6-0 at home and the Cardinals won’t be able to hear themselves think in this one. NO BETS

Time to distribute all the marbles in the NFC South. Both the Saints and Panthers are 10-4 with the Saints winning 31-13 just two weeks ago in New Orleans. A Saints win here nails the division. A loss and the tiebreakers will come into play with the loser not getting a bye or a home field in the second round. Drew Brees injured his hand last week but played anyway and claims it won't be an issue on Sunday. But what is at issue is how Brees acts in away games. Consider that at home for seven games, Brees has thrown 23 touchdowns. In seven road games, he only managed 11 scores. He's failed to throw for 300 yards in only four games - all of them on the road. This is not privileged information and so the Saints road woes have many backing off them. However, the Panthers may not be ready for this stage yet.

Carolina has had an easy schedule (Buffalo, the Giants, Arizona, Minnesota, St. Louis, Tampa Bay, Atlanta, San Fran, New England, Miami, Tampa again, New Orleans and finally the Jets last week). Of those teams, two and possibly three will make the playoffs and the Panthers had trouble with all of them. They also lost to Arizona and again, they were smoked by these Saints. Suddenly, there is pressure on the Panthers to win an important, late season game and that is unchartered territory for this group. Sure, the Panthers are capable but we’re most definitely not comfortable spotting points to Drew Brees in an important game. He’s been there, done that. NO BETS

Buffalo is 1-3 in games that the rookie quarterback hasn’t played. They are out of the playoff race, while the Dolphins are looking to claim a wild card spot, or possibly the division title. It almost looks too easy but that’s the red flag. What we know for sure is that the Bills are tough as shoe-leather at home and it’s rarely easy for any team, good or bad, to come in here and put away the Bills. The Lions didn’t give up a touchdown on Monday night, yet they are now in third place in the division and their future is completely out of their own hands with two games to play. If Green Bay and Chicago win this week, the Lions are guaranteed to be eliminated from postseason competition. American Jewelry and Loan will be doing good business down on 8 Mile. The Lions have once again collapsed post-Thanksgiving and even Megatron can’t pull them out of it. That was a team on Monday that, once again, has all the looks of one-and-done in the playoffs. THIS IS A NO WAGER. SIA is offering up the Vikings at +10 but you have to lay -130 to go that route. We instead will choose to take 8½-points at Pinnacle and lay regular juice. The Bengals had a chance to not only run away and hide in their division, but get a chance to run the table and get a first-round playoff bye – which will be as critical this year as any. The difference between being at home for a wild card game and being at home for the divisional round of the playoffs is huge. They had a chance to dagger the Steelers, but were buried early and died slowly. Not good news for a team that was aware of the goings on earlier in the day and had a chance to take unique advantage of the situation. Instead, they stunk out the open end of Heinz Field and ran it down their leg. Welcome to that home game in the wild card round. For Cinci, this one is also sandwiched between that game last week in Pitt and next week’s game against the Ravens and that’s not a good situation to be spotting significant points against a Vikes squad that is scoring points and that usually hangs around.  NO BET.

Yes, the Jets have been eliminated from playoff contention following Baltimore’s win on Monday Night.  But this Geno Smith quote speaks volumes about their desire to close out the season on a positive note and potentially save Rex Ryan’s job: “We're going out there and playing for Rex because he's our head coach and we want to play hard for him and we want to win games for him. He coaches us hard, he puts the time and effort in and he deserves for our team to go out and that's what we do every single week. I love Rex.”

The Jets offense has shown signs of life over the past two weeks, hanging 57 points on Carolina and Oakland. They’ve been a strong ‘home/road dichotomy’ team all year, 5-2 SU and ATS playing at MetLife Stadium, compared to their 1-6 SU, 2-4-1 ATS mark on the highway.  I expect a victory in their home finale.

There are a couple things working in the Raiders favor here.  One is that San Diego is in a prime letdown spot after stunning the heavily favored Broncos (in Denver) 10 days ago.  In this instance, I think the extra time off works AGAINST the Chargers.  Also, they are 1-5 ATS the last six times they have been off a SU dog win, including 0-2 ATS this year.  Just three weeks ago, they lost by a touchdown here at home to Cincinnati, one week removed from going to Kansas City and upsetting the Chiefs.

As I've stated in the past, taking division underdogs of more than one score is typically a good idea.  In this instance, we are actually getting this many points with the team that won the first matchup of the season, which is a rarity. Back on October 6th, San Diego went to Oakland & in a game that started extra late due to a conflict w/ the MLB playoffs, lost outright 27-17.  The Chargers turned it over five times and that loss represents the ONLY time this season they've lost a game by more than one possession.

The Chargers are a team that I've thrown my support behind in recent weeks, but I'm leery of them laying this many points.  Two of the three times I've cashed them over the last four games, they were an underdog.  Oakland is a perfect 3-0 ATS this season taking double digits.  For all their defensive woes last week, the Raiders offense was able to move the ball on the Chiefs, totaling 461 yards and 26 first downs.  I see them being able to score enough this week to stay within the number.

Wyoming tries to snap a two game losing streak when they host Northern Colorado on Sunday. The Cowboys are 7-4 on the season and have lost two straight after a one point win at South Dakota. This is a team that has played some close contests already. Larry Nance Jr. (15.8 ppg) and Riley Grabau (12.3 ppg) lead the way for the team out of the Mountain West. Northern Colorado is 6-2 with their losses being by four at New Mexico State and by seven at Colorado State. This is a veteran bunch with a win already over Kansas State and some momentum on a four game win streak. The Bears have four double digit scorers led by Derrick Barden (14.1 ppg). Wyoming has failed to cover in 23 of their last 40 games against teams with a winning record. We'll take the road team to make things interesting in this one.

The Dolphins acted like the won the Super Bowl last week when they knocked off the New England Patriots at home, but I expect them to come crashing back down to Earth this week. Miami is a popular play with the public this week after their win against the Patriots and they need this win bad to keep their playoff hopes alive, but this has been Buffalo's best spot this season. The Bills have been outstanding as a home underdog this season and have more than held their own on their own turf against better teams than Miami. Quarterback EJ Manual will not play for the Bills, but that makes me like this play even more. I really like what Thad Lewis brings to the table and you will notice that this line did absolutely nothing when it was announced earlier in the week the Manual was out due to injury. Take the points.

The Rams are coming off of a huge home underdog win last week over the Saints, but I don't like them this week in the role of the favorite against the Bucs. St. Louis pulled out all the stops last week playing like a team that had nothing to lose to upset one of the top teams in the NFC. This week they are playing a team that they are supposed to beat so I don't expect to see that same fire and passion from the St. Louis players nor the wide open play calling by the Rams coaching staff. Tampa Bay is coming off of a loss at home to the 49ers, but I expect them to have more success this week. The Bucs and rookie quarterback Mike Glennon has had some real flashes of greatness at times and pushed to Seattle Seahawks to their limits in their trip to Seattle. The Rams were able to have a lot of success last week because they were able to run the ball well against a weak New Orleans run defense. The Bucs are a physical team that can stop the run. Tampa's weakness is in the passing game that can be exploited by good quarterbacks, but I don't categorize Kellen Clemens as a good quarterback as the Rams' passing attack is very limited with Clemens under center. Also the Rams most explosive wide receiver, rookie Tavon Austin is nursing and injury and if he does play will be less than 100%. St. Louis is going to be a popular play this week among the betting public after their upset of the Saints last week paired with the Bucs loss to the 49ers, but Tampa Bay is 5-2 against the spread in their last seven. Take the points.

INSTEAD OF LEACHING OFF OTHERS TRY GETTING IT YOURSELF VIKESFAG
The Patriot's loss of tight end Rob Gronkowski is huge. New England can say all they want about coming up with different game plans with Gronk out but the bottom line is that the Patriots are just not the same offensively without him by almost two full touchdowns. New England averaged 32.8 points a game with Gronk in the lineup and with out him that average drops to 20 points per game. Last week New England struggled in the red zone against the Dolphins who have the second best red zone defnese in the NFL. A big part of those struggles are due to the loss of Gronk. This week things don't get any easier for the Patriots as the Ravens have the best red zone defense in the NFL. Teams like to be on an upswing as they head into the playoffs and the Patriots are not. New England is just 3-2 straight up and 1-4 against the spread since their bye week and they have been outscored by their opponents in those five games. The Ravens seem like a team that might be ready to make a run. Baltimore is coming off of a huge Monday night win at Detroit and they have played very well at home this season. Baltimore is 6-1 straight up and 5-2 against the spread at home this season and this game is huge for the Ravens chances to make the playoffs and possibly win the division. Baltimore beat New England twice last season at home in the regular season and again at Foxboro in the AFC Championship game and I expect them to make it three straight victories in this game. Lay the points.

INSTEAD OF LEACHING OFF OTHERS TRY GETTING IT YOURSELF VIKESFAG
The Eagles and the visiting Bears are both fighting for a playoff spot, but I like the visitor's from Chicago to come out on top of this Sunday night matchup. The Philadelphia defense, after playing pretty well for several games, reverted back to form as they were shredded in the passing game last week by Matt Cassel and the Minnesota Vikings lifeless passing game as Cassel threw from 382 yards completing 26 out of 35 attempts. This is a nightmare of a match up for the Eagles this week as they try to contain wide receivers Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery, tight end Martellus Bennett and one of the best receiving running backs in the league in Matt Forte. The Bear's 5th ranked passing attack is in for a big day against the Eagles 31st rank passing defense. Philadelphia's offense has been scoring points and making big plays with Nick Foles under center for head coach Chip Kelly and I expect them to have success in this game against Chicago. Nobody runs the ball better than the Eagles #1 ranked rushing attack, and the Bears are statistically the worst team in the NFL against the run. So we have two offense's going against defenses that are weak against the opponents strength. The difference between these two units is Chicago's ability to make big plays on the defensive side of the ball. The Bears have a knack for creating turnovers and defensive scores and I look for more of the same in this game. Philadelphia is still a fade at home in my opinion and I'll gladly take that points in this one.

Re: Free Picks: Service Plays for Sunday, December 22

Aaron's Analysis

Washington Redskins +3

The Washington Redskins (3-11) host NFC East rival Dallas (7-7) on Sunday in our nation’s capital. Both of these teams enter this game engulfed in turmoil, from Redskins coach Mike Shanahan being on the hot seat and sitting his team captain QB Robert Griffin III to the Cowboys with their walking distraction, receiver Dez Bryant and the ineffectiveness of both QB Tony Romo and the defense. With Kirk Cousins at QB the Redskins nearly got off the skid last week, as they came within a two point conversion away from defeating Atlanta despite seven turnovers, falling short by the score of 27-26. Due to all of those turnovers that loss was deceiving, as the Redskins managed to outgain the Falcons by the count of 476-243. That loss extended their losing streak to six games. As for the Cowboys, they saw a 26-3 halftime lead over Green Bay evaporate in the second half and lost in heartbreaking fashion, 37-36. Their two game losing streak has resulted in them falling one game behind the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC East. Last year the Redskins defeated the Cowboys in both matchups, by the score of 28-18 at home, and 38-31 in Dallas. In this year’s previous matchup, the Cowboys won 31-16 despite being outgained 433-213. The Redskins should once again be able to take advantage of a weak Dallas defense who ranks #32 in the league versus the pass (297.4 yards per game allowed) and #28 versus the run (129.9). Over the last seven games, however, those averages inflate to 302.9 yards per game allowed versus the pass and 158 versus the run. With defensive numbers such as those, it is easy to see how the Packers were able to come from behind in the second half and how the Chicago Bears were able to score on every possession (with the exception of their end of the game kneel down) a few Monday nights ago, en route to a 45-28 Bears victory. The Cowboys are ailing at the linebacker position, and it shows. Versus the rush over the last five games the Cowboys have allowed 784 yards on 143 carries (5.5 yards per carry) and 7 TDs. Unfortunately for the Cowboys, this week they’re facing a Redskin team ranked #3 in rushing with an average of 140.9 yards per game. Over their last three matchups dating to last season, the Redskins have averaged 213 yards per game rushing versus the Cowboys. Redskin back Alfred Morris, with 1,182 yards from scrimmage and 6 TDs this season, should be able to get things moving on the ground. Back Roy Helu is versatile being able to catch passes out of the backfield with 232 receiving yards on the season, to go along with his 252 yards and 4 TDs rushing. Kirk Cousins, at least in the passing game, appears to be an upgrade over Robert Griffin III. Versus the Falcons, Cousins completed 29 of 45 passes for 381 yards and 3 TDs. Albeit the Falcons do not exactly have one of the best defenses out there, neither do the Cowboys. Even though it remains to be seen how he’ll fare versus a tough defense, it doesn’t appear Cousins has anything much to worry about yet. Cousins should also be able to increase the production of the receivers, as already evidenced by last week’s game. His targets include receivers Pierre Garcon (96 catches for 1,146 yards and 4 TDs), Santana Moss (38 catches for 426 yards and 2 TDs) and Aldrick Robinson (14 catches for 318 yards and 2 TDs). Last week versus the Falcons Garcon caught 7 passes for 129 yards and 1 TD, Moss 8 catches for 64 yards and 1 TD and Robinson with 4 catches for 99 yards. Defensively the Redskins have done rather well against the rush, allowing 110.9 yards per game. They have shown some improvement in the secondary as of late, as they have allowed an average of just 194.3 yards per game through the air over their last four contests. Although the Cowboys have shown some improvement on the ground of late with back DeMarco Murray (Cowboys ranked #23 on the season, 96.6 yards per game rushing), QB Tony Romo has struggled, as the Cowboys have averaged just 198.8 yards passing over the last five games. Versus a poor Cowboys defense, Cousins and Garcon should be able to have success in the passing game, while Morris should be able to put up the yards on the ground. Although Romo and Bryant could very well hook up for a bunch of yards here, the Redskins should be able to come away with a nice home victory over division rival Dallas and in doing so stick a wrench in the playoff hopes of the Cowboys.

INSTEAD OF LEACHING OFF OTHERS WORK TRY GET IT YOURSELF VIKESFAG
One of the first things I learned about handicapping sports is that good old fashioned logic doesn’t hold up especially well. That’s truer in the NFL than anywhere else. Nevertheless, I’m going the logical route with today’s free play as the Browns visit the Jets.
INSTEAD OF LEACHING OFF OTHERS WORK TRY GET IT YOURSELF VIKESFAG
Let’s be clear right off the bat that playing a side because they “need” to win can get you buried in this outfit. And there is what I believe to be a “need” factor here with the Jets. Both Cleveland and the Green Slime are out of the playoff chase. But Rex Ryan has to likely win out to keep his job. I think if he gets to 8-8 Ryan gets a reprieve. 7-9, I think he’s an underdog. 6-10 has to be adios, doesn’t it? So to reach that seven or eight win plateau, Ryan has to have this one. It’s a more subtle “need” game as there is no post-season berth at stake, so it’s a little less obvious in terms of where the number gets set.
INSTEAD OF LEACHING OFF OTHERS WORK TRY GET IT YOURSELF VIKESFAG
Beyond that, there’s the obvious. The Browns are a terrible road team, with only one win all season. The Jets have actually been pretty solid at home, racking up a 5-2 ledger. I’ll admit I’m a little perplexed as to why the number is quite as short as it is off those records, but I’m not going to squawk about it.
INSTEAD OF LEACHING OFF OTHERS WORK TRY GET IT YOURSELF VIKESFAG
The good news here is that I don’t have to sweat the dreaded Jets off a win angle. Off a loss, the Jets aren’t so awful, winning five of seven in that scenario. These teams are in a relative dead heat on the data, with the Jets basically having gotten a little luckier than the Browns. But I do see the situation favoring the Jets, and with the number where it is, I see the home team as the side today.

The Lions laying 10-points over the Giants really peaks my interest. Now guys, the Giants at 5-9 are out of it, dropping 3 of their last 4 both SU and ATS. Eli Manning's 25 INT's are well-publicized, very little ground game to speak of, but an excellent receiving corps with or without Victor Cruz (who is doubtful here). But they rank 10th overall in Total Yards Allowed on "D". They have some very good defenders, a smart coach, and a team with a lot of pride. Detroit has lost 4 of their last 5 both SU and ATS and are 1-4 ATS their L5 games played at home. The Lions come off of a big loss to the Ravens, 18-16 on Monday Night so they had a short week. I know they rank third on offense in Total Yards but they can't run the ball and the defense is mediocre. I feel this is a lot of points to lay. I must side with New York and the 10 points.

The Dolphins are 3 games better than the Bills. More importantly their road record is better than the Bills home record! They are 9-5 ATS compared to the bills being 7-7. Miami lost by 2 at home earlier this season and has revenge factor in mind. Miami has covered all of their past 5 games! Plus the teams they have beaten have been superior teams like the Pats and on the road the Steelers.Favorite is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 meetings.

These teams come in with real goalie problems and I think we can ride that to another higher scoring game. The Minnesota Wild (20-12-5) comes off a 5-2 loss at the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Wild went with backup goalie Nicklas Backstrom who made 31 saves on 36 shots. Dany Heatley and Jason Pominville each scored goals in a losing effort. The New York Rangers (16-18-2) come off a 5-3 loss to the New York Islanders. The Rangers got goals from Benoit Pouliot, Derek Dorsett and Derek Stepan, but Henrik Lundqvist stopped only 15 of 19 shots as New York fell to 1-4-2 on its team-record, nine-game homestand. New York games have seen the higher number in four straight games. Goaltender Henrik Lundqvist is ice cold coming into the weekend. He gave up four goals on just 19 shots faced in the loss to the Islanders Friday. The Swedish netminder has just a 3.23 GAA in his last 10 starts. The Wild are looking to bounce back as well but are forced to go with Nicklas Backstrom instead of starter Josh Harding. Take a second look at the “over.”

Reloading UTSA has been non-competitive vs. most of the higher-level foes it has faced, as its inability to loosen defenses with three-point shooting (the Roadrunners only 29.9% triples) along with a suspect defense (foes 48.1% from floor) and careless ballhandling (UTSA almost twice as many TOs as assists) have contributed to some heavy defeats. On the other hand, Sun Belt sources are starting to sound bullish again regarding GSU, now that soph G R.J. Hunter (14.9 ppg) apparently is learning to co-exist with Kentucky transfer Ryan Harrow (19.8 ppg), while 6-9 Southern Cal transfer Curtis Washington has been making his presence felt on the glass.
