Five Things You Need to Know in Sports
Want to start your sports day off right? Looking for some action and the most exciting matchups of the day? The NFL is on tap so let's get right to it. Here is a brief look at the top five important matchups of the day.
1)Baltimore (5-1) at Houston, 1pmET, Reliant Stadium, (CBS)
Last year: BALTIMORE (-7) over Houston, 29-14; BALTIMORE (-7') over Houston, 20-13 (playoffs). These are the only two teams with records above .500 in the AFC. Baltimore is now without ILB Ray Lewis (triceps) and CB Lardarius Webb (ACL) for the season. Houston is coming off a 42-24 loss at home to Green Bay last week. Baltimore has allowed 441 rushing yards the past two games. Road team is 5-1 ATS L6 in series. Houston is a 6.5-point favorite with a total of 48.5.
2)NY Jets (3-3) at New England (3-3), 4:25pmET, Gillette Stadium, (CBS)
Last year: New England (-2) over NY JETS 37-16; NEW ENGLAND (-7) over NY Jets, 30-21. Both teams need a win here. The Jets have the 30th-ranked offense, but managed to rout Indy last week at home, 35-9. New England is coming off a 24-23 loss at Seattle. The Jets need to get the ball to TE Dustin Keller, who is finally healthy. Tom Brady will look to establish Aaron Hernandez and Rob Gronkowski. Jets are 3-8 ATS L11 road games. New England is a 10.5-point favorite with a total of 47.
3)Washington (3-3) at NY Giants (4-2), 1pmET, MetLife Stadium, Field, East Rutherford, N.J
Last year: WASHINGTON (+2') over NY Giants, 28-14; WASHINGTON (+6) over NY Giants, 23-10. Robert Griffin III leads the NFL with a 70.2% completion. The Giants will attempt to throw against a poor Washington secondary that has subpar safeties due to injuries. Washington needs to keep the ball on the ground with RGIII and Alfred Morris (538 yards). Washington is 1-8 Under last 9 in New York. NY Giants are a 6-point favorite with a total of 51.
4)Dallas (2-3) at Carolina (1-4), Bank of America Field
The Cowboys have won eight straight meetings between the teams. Dallas is looking to rebound from a 31-29 loss at Baltimore in which Dan Bailey missed a 51-yard field goal with two seconds left. Carolina has lost three straight and are already four games behind NFC South leader Atlanta in the loss column. Dallas lost running back DeMarco Murray to a foot injury last week, but Felix Jones picked up the slack with 92 yards and a touchdown. The OVER is 4-1 last five in series. Dallas is a 2.5-point favorite with a total of 46.
5)Pittsburgh (2-3) at Cincinnati (3-3), Paul Brown Stadium
Last year: PITTSBURGH (-6’) over Cincinnati, 35-7; Pittsburgh (-4) over CINCINNATI, 24-17. The Steelers have lost three straight games, including two road losses to below-average teams in Oakland and Tennessee. The Bengals have lost two straight games and need to take advantage of the Steelers’ injuries on offense and in the secondary with Troy Polamalu out.. Pittsburgh is 0-7 ATS Last 7 road games Pittsburgh is a 1-point favorite with a total of 45.
