"1 UNIT" BASEBALL UPSET SHOCKER
Giants +220 at Dodgers
Veteran hurler and former Cy-Young award winner Barry Zito is attempting to avoid losing a major-league high 17 games tonight. Even though Zito has proved to be one of baseball's biggest free-agent busts, the bottom line is that San Francisco suddenly has WON 5 of his last 6 starts including THREE IN A ROW. For those of you who are true baseball fans, you know that this Giants/Dodgers rivalry is the most intense out in the western time zone. I am fully aware that Los Angeles comes into tonight riding a 15-3 overall tear which has opened up a 3' game lead in the National League West division chase. I am also aware that the Dodgers have won 15 of the past 19 games in front of their own home fans who have been piling in to see Manny Ramirez who now has 44 RBI in just 45 games with his new team. But the fact of the matter is that Los Angeles was EXTENDED into extra innings yesterday at Pittsburgh and has had to fly through 3 different time zones without the benefit of a day off. San Francisco actually did not have to fly that far as they just wrapped up a series in the desert of Arizona. I am aware that veteran Greg Maddux has not lost verusus the Giants since way back in 2003 and is coming off a brilliant TWO HIT performance. But the fact of the matter is that Los Angeles only has a 7-5 lead in this years rivalry with San Francisco who once again has been WINNING with Zito on the mound. There will be alot of viewers watching in the Bay Area as tonight's game is being broadcast on the local NBC-TV affiliate. San Francisco just happens to be a positive "9-3" on the ROAD this campaign after playing 6 consecutive contests on the highway. But the big news from the database is one of the strangest trends I have come across this season as Barry Zito has WON at a vicious "6-1" clip following a start where he issued 5+ walks.
