Re: THURSDAY SERVICE PLAYS

JAKE TIMLIN

Thursday selection is the New York Yankees -1½

Take the Yankees this afternoon as they earn a big time sweep over the Padres. You see thanks to having won the first two games of this series by a combined score of 16-5 and having won their last 6 games overall New York is in great shape to make it 7 in a row today. After all for the Yankees they are starting to heat up having outscored their opponents 43-11 over their last 6 games and now thanks to the Joba experience looking like a success as Chamberlain pitched six solid innings last start out San Diego is in trouble. Yes the same San Diego team that is just 11-24 on the highway this year as the Padres are struggling on their current trip having lost 4 of their lat 5. Flat out today is a huge mismatch and one where I see the Yankees cruising to yet another Run Line winner.

All New York -1½

BRIAN MARSHALL

Houston Astros vs. Baltimore Orioles
Plays On: Houston/Baltimore Over 9.5

Game Analyses: Do you love high-scoring games? If yes, you will love Thursday's MLB contest between the Houston Astros and Baltimore Orioles.

The Houston Astros will be lead by starting pitcher Shawn Chacon. Shawn Chacon has been struggling as of late. In fact, Shawn Chacon has a 8.76 ERA in his last 3 starts. We see Shawn Chacon giving up many runs once again today.

The Baltimore Orioles will be lead by starting pitcher Brian Burres. Brian Burres has also been struggling as of late. In fact, Brian Burres has a 10.05 ERA in his last 3 starts. We see Brian Burres giving up many runs today.

The bottom line, we should see many runs scored today!

Take the Houston Astros/Baltimore Orioles Over 9.5

King Creole Sports

2** HOUSTON ASTROS

Will the Orioles get the SWEEP tonight against the Astros in Game Three of their Interleague series? Not if current starting pitcher form is any indication. Yes, it's been an over-achieving season thus far for the Orange Birds. But their absolute WORST role in any game of a series occurs tonight. Baltimore is 4-15 in ALL Game Three of any series thus far in the 2008 season. Houston should be licking their chops tonight as they are hitting 40+ points HIGHER against Southpaws than they do against righties. They take on BRIAN BURRES who quite frankly has STUNK up the joint in his last 4 starts. Burres has an ERA that should scare the bejesus out of any Baltimore backers tonight. How about 12.00 in his last 4 starts covering 18 innings? And his WHIP in those 4 starts is a staggering 2.33 (1.30 or less is considered good). And with just as many walks (7) as K's (7).... we're talking prime "play-AGAINST" potential. His counterpart (Shawn Chacon) is off a quality start as he went 6+ innings vs the "mighty" Yankees 6 days ago, and allowed only 3 hits and ONE earned run. He's also a PERFECT 2-0 in his career vs tonight's opponent (1.32 ERA!). Houston is 9-3 in Game Three of a series after losing each of the first two games. Baltimore is 3-7 at home in Interleague games vs righties... and a PERFECT 0-9 in Brian Burres "Game Three" starts.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Cincinnati Reds
Play: Cincinnati Reds

It was a very tough stretch for the Reds the past few series. The Dodgers are starting rookie Eric Stults was recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday and will get the start on Thursday, This afternoon the Reds will try and get a win with Harang on the hill who is 3-9 on the season with a 4.10 ERA. The Reds will hit enough against this young rookie and take the final game of this 3-game set. Take the home team here today to get the win. Play the REDS

Re: THURSDAY SERVICE PLAYS

Scott Rickenbach

Chicago Cubs @ Tampa Bay Rays
PICK: Tampa Bay Rays

The Rays are a little pricier than the range we like to use on favorites in baseball but we’ll use them in this spot tonight as a free pick. The key here is the home/road dichotomy of these clubs and these hurlers. While James Shields has been simply dominant at home AGAIN this season, the Cubs Sean Gallagher is 0-3 on the road with a 5.79 ERA so far this season. The Cubs are below .500 on the road this season while the Rays have won nine straight series at home. Overall, Tampa Bay has won 24 of their last 28 games at home.

Considering that 86% winning run over 28 games there is definitely value with the Rays in this moderate price range tonight. This is especially true when you factor in that Shields is on the mound for Tampa Bay. He's pitched so well at Tropicana Field and this price range is quite fair for backing him in this spot. Keep in mind that the Rays bullpen has also performed well so far in this series but, with Shields on the bump, they may not be needed much tonight! The Rays notch yet another home win here. Play Tampa Bay

Black Widow Sports

1* on Texas Rangers -105

The Texas Rangers are a solid free play at home tonight against the Braves.  Texas will be hungry to get back into the win column after blowout a 2-2 tie to the Braves in the 9th inning to lose late.  Atlanta is just 11-26 on the road this season so you can see how rare this road victory was.  The Braves are scoring just 3.9 runs per game on the road, while the Rangers are scoring 6.0 runs per game at home.  Scott Feldman is undefeated in 5 home starts with a 2.53 ERA for Texas.  Take the Rangers behind Feldman on the Money Line.

Re: THURSDAY SERVICE PLAYS

Matty O´Shea

Today's Pick: TAMPA BAY RAYS (runline)

The Cubs have not three straight games all season and face a very motivated Rays team that wants this sweep very badly. Consider Chicago manager Lou Piniella and pitching coach Larry Rothschild both managed Tampa Bay, and the crowd has had a mixed reaction so far through the first two game in cheering for both teams. The Rays obviously know this and would love nothing more than to finish this series up with a big victory. In fact, Tampa 2B Akinori Iwamura appealed his three-game suspension just so he could play in this series against the Cubs. James Shields gets the call for the Rays and is a dominant 3-1 at home with a 1.72 ERA. Shields will be opposed by Chicago's Sean Gallagher, who is winless on the road with an 0-3 mark and an inflated 5.79 ERA. Tampa will win this one easily, so take the value and bet the Rays on the runline.
