Jeter out for Yankees with strained left quadriceps
By ASSOCIATED PRESS

NEW YORK (AP) -Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter left Monday night's game against the Tampa Bay Rays with a strained left quadriceps.

Morgan Ensberg came in to play first base before the third inning, and Wilson Betemit switched from first to shortstop to replace Jeter.

Jeter beat out a potential double-play grounder in the first inning and scored on Bobby Abreu's two-run homer.

Reports from multiple sources are saying that Jeter will miss at least today's road game against the Kansas City Royals and probably more. The Yankees are slated as -135 favorites and the total is set at nine runs.

"No, we're not thinking DL right now. It's gonna take a few days," said Yankees manager Joe Girardi.

The good news for the Yankees is they went 9-1 in 10 games against the Royals last season. This week's three-game series with KC ends on Thursday.
