Los Angeles Rams Fantasy Spin

Jared Goff completed 33-of-51 passes for 284 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception in Los Angeles' Week 15 loss to the Cowboys. Goff whiffed on multiple wide open throws in the second half due in part to suffering a swollen thumb mid-second quarter; and when he wasn't tossing inaccurate passes or getting pressured, Los Angeles' wideouts were dropping easy grabs. Dallas' 31-7 lead early in the third quarter forced the Rams' offense to become one dimensional, allowing LB Sean Lee and slot CB Jourdan Lewis to put forth their best efforts of the year including Lee's game-altering interception with 41 seconds left in the first half. Goff connected with Cooper Kupp for a seven-yard touchdown when the game was out of hand in the fourth quarter to pad his stats. The 25-year-old has typically folded under pressure in the pocket, though, making him one to avoid in the fantasy championship next week against the Niners.

San Francisco 49ers Fantasy Spin

Jimmy Garoppolo completed 22-of-34 passes for 200 yards and one touchdown in the 49ers' Week 15 loss to the Falcons. This was a trainwreck performance from everyone but George Kittle who accounted for 67% of Jimmy G's yards. Garoppolo has been extremely hot and cold this season. He had four touchdowns in each of the three games against Arizona and New Orleans but is averaging 1.27 scores in his 11 other games. For the 49ers to win in the playoffs, Garoppolo needs to play more consistent football, especially with the Niners expected to play on the road. Jimmy G will be a forgettable QB2 against the Rams in Week 16

Prediction

Goff’s final stat line from last week’s game in Dallas looks decent but it’s not indicative of how poorly he played. He continues to struggle on the road and even when he faced this Niners defense in L.A. earlier this season, he stunk. I don’t expect the Rams to contribute enough points to help push the score over the total. Meanwhile, the 49ers scored 22 points last week in their loss to the Falcons, but they needed a Kenyon Barner muffed punt in the third quarter – a play that set San Francisco up at the goal line - to help them score six of those points. I expect the Rams defense, which was embarrassed last Sunday in Dallas, to rebound in what should be a lower-scoring affair.
