Public Betting Trends
According to oddsmakers at BetNow.eu, the Rams are heavily favored on the road, as they are getting odds of -10 points against the Lions. The over/under total for the contest is currently listed at 54.5 points. The public betting for this game currently has 80 percent going on the Rams on the road.
Rams in the NFC mix
The Rams are coming off a bye following an amazing 54-51 shootout with over the Kansas City Chiefs two weeks ago. The Rams are 10-1 on the season, 4-6-1 against the spread and 6-5 with the over. L.A. has hit the over in three straight games.
Los Angeles has been very explosive on offense this season, as they rank third in points (35.4 ppg) and second in total yards (448.6 ypg). Jared Goff has thrown for 3,547 yards and 26 touchdowns with just six interceptions. Todd Gurley has rushed for 1,043 yards and 13 touchdowns while catching 43 passes for 441 yards and four more scores. Both Brandin Cooks and Robert Woods are nearing 1,000 receiving yards on the season and both have 59 receptions. Cooks is dealing with a lower body injury that has him questionable to play on Sunday. Defensively, the Rams are giving up 25.6 points and 372.5 yards per game. They do give up a lot, but create havoc as well with their front. Aaron Donald has 14.5 sacks to lead the unit.
Lions fall again
The Detroit Lions suffered their fourth loss in five games on Thanksgiving when they were beaten by the Chicago Bears, 23-16, at home. Detroit is now 4-7 on the year, 6-5 against the spread and 6-5 with the over. The Lions have hit the under in four of their last five games.
The Lions have been struggling on offense over recent weeks and are averaging just 21.6 points and 342.7 yards per game this year. They expect to be without rookie running back Kerryon Johnson again this week due to a knee injury. He was providing a nice boost in the backfield this year with 641 rushing yards and three scores. Matthew Stafford has thrown for 2,841 yards and 17 touchdowns in 2018, but also has 10 interceptions and has been sacked 32 times. Two of his top three targets have been traded or put on IR, which has turned him into a dink-and-dunk QB lately. Kenny Golladay is the leading receiver with 52 catches for 804 yards and five touchdowns. Defensively, Detroit gives up 26 points per game, but allows just 355.5 yards per contest.
NFL Betting Trends
Los Angeles
The Rams have hit the over in six straight games in December and in nine of their last 13 road games.
Detroit
The Lions have hit the under in their last four games on fieldturf and in four of their last five at home.
Prediction:
I have a hard time believing the Lions are going to be able to slow down the Rams offense. Los Angeles has scored on almost everyone and I would expect them to put up a good 35 on Detroit. Once things get out of hand, that is typically when Detroit starts to wake up on offense and find some garbage points. The Rams defense should get some good pressure early, but their secondary has been vulnerable all year and I see the Lions getting some big plays on them to contribute to the total.
NFL Prediction: Rams/Lions Over 54.5
