Texans vs. Jaguars Prediction
Will the Houston Texans be able to go on the road and get a win when they face the Jacksonville Jaguars today at 1PM ET?
According to the oddsmakers at BetDSI, the Jaguars are a slight favorite at home, as they are getting odds of -2 points against Houston. The over/under total for the contest is listed at 42 points. Houston has won four straight meetings with the Jaguars and the Texans are 3-1 against the spread in those four games.
Houston is coming off its bye with a 5-3 record following a 20-13 win at home over the Detroit Lions on Oct. 30. The Texans are 0-3 on the road this season, failing to cover in any of those games. They are now 4-3-1 against the spread in 2016. Houston has been relying on its defense all season, as the team is giving up just 20.9 points and 329.1 yards per game in 2016. The offense is averaging just 17.1 points and 328.9 yards per game. Brock Osweiler has struggled for Houston, throwing for only 1,719 yards with 9 touchdowns and 9 interceptions. He also is completing just 59 percent of his passes. Lamar Miller has run for 637 yards and a pair of scores, but is battling a shoulder injury. The defense also has a key injury with Vince Wilfork dealing with a groin issue. He is listed as questionable to play today.
Jacksonville is coming off a 19-14 loss at Kansas City last week. The Jaguars have lost three straight to fall to 2-6 on the season. They are also 4-4 against the spread. Jacksonville has been a mess on both sides of the ball as the offense is putting up just 19.1 points per game, while the defense is allowing 26.9 points per contest. Blake Bortles has struggled with turnovers. He has thrown 10 interceptions with 14 touchdowns and 2,156 yards. The team has also fumbled the ball five times and have very little of a run game. T.J. Yeldon is the leading rusher with 253 yards through eight games. The Jacksonville defense has only been able to create five turnovers this year.
Houston isn’t a perfect team by any means, but it still has found ways to win. While the Texans are winless on the road, that was against the likes of Denver, Minnesota and New England. Jacksonville is a far cry from those teams. The Jaguars haven’t showing anything to be excited about this season and are likely to struggle against this Houston defense.
