Oakland Raiders

Derek Carr completed 21-of-28 passes for 244 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for another touchdown Sunday in the Raiders’ Week 8 loss to Indianapolis. Carr rushed twice for no gain. It's been a turbulent week for Carr, who has been the subject of trade rumors and has also had the media question his toughness (not to mention the Raiders traded away his top receiver, Amari Cooper, on Monday). But none of those distractions had any bearing on Sunday's outcome as the 26-year-old went out and had arguably his best game of the season. He distributed touchdowns to three different receivers (Jared Cook, Brandon LaFell and Seth Roberts) while also adding his first career rushing touchdown on a quarterback sneak. Carr was so accurate that at one point he strung together 17 straight completions. He'll get another favorable draw Thursday at San Francisco.

San Francisco 49ers

C.J. Beathard completed 14-of-28 passes for 190 yards and one score in the 49ers' Week 8 loss to the Cardinals. It's the second consecutive game Beathard's failed to eclipse 200 yards, and he's done so in cush matchups (Rams, at Cardinals). He's only trended down since exploding out of the gates in place of Jimmy Garoppolo due in part to constant injuries among the Niners' receiving corps and offensive line. With trade rumors circling Pierre Garcon, Beathard could take to the field Thursday with Marquise Goodwin, Kendrick Bourne, and Trent Taylor in three-wide sets. He'll still be a serviceable streamer in Week 9 against the Raiders.

Prediction

I was surprised when I saw that the under has cashed in 11 of the Raiders’ last 14 games because I view them as a great ‘over’ play. Oakland’s defense is horrendous. The unit ranks 26th in total yards allowed, 22nd in passing yards allowed, 32nd in rush yards allowed, and 31 points allowed, surrendering 31.1 per game. The 49ers’ offense was dreadful the past two weeks but is only three games removed from lighting up the Packers defense at Lambeau Field. Oakland’s defense should provide San Francisco’s offense to get back on track Thursday night.
