Titans shock the Jaguars
After a loss at Miami to open the season, the Titans have picked up a pair of 3-point wins over the Texans and Jaguars over the last two weeks. Tennessee is 2-1 against the spread as well and 2-1 with the under. The covers the last two weeks snapped a six-game losing streak at the betting window for the Titans.
Tennessee has been holding up on defense, allowing just 16.7 points and 350 yards per game. The concern for the Titans is on offense, as it is putting up just 16.3 points and 295 yards per game thus far. Marcus Mariota didn’t start last game, but was forced in due to injuries. He is still dealing with a nerve issue in his elbow and hand. He will have to play with Blaine Gabbert still out with a concussion. Mariota has thrown for just 203 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions. Dion Lewis is the leading rusher with 143 yards and a score.
Eagles seeking offensive surge
The Eagles picked up a 20-16 win at home over the Indianapolis Colts in the first game back for QB Carson Wentz. Philly is now 2-1 on the season with a 1-2 record against the spread and 2-1 mark with the under. The Eagles are just 2-5 against the spread in their last seven games, including the preseason.
Philadelphia has remained strong on defense this year, allowing just 18.3 points and 334 yards per game. Their run defense is allowing just 61.7 yards per contest. On offense, the Eagles are putting up 19.7 points and 359 yards per game. Wentz threw for 255 yards and a touchdown in his debut last week, but was sacked five times. The team has been without Jay Ajayi in the backfield, but he is expected to suit up this week despite a lingering back injury.
NFL Betting Trends
Tennessee
The Titans have covered the spread in four straight home games and in eight of their last 10 against a winning team.
Philadelphia
The Eagles are 11-4 against the spread in their last 15 games on grass and 10-4 ATS in their last 14 games against a team with a winning record.
Prediction:
I would expect the Eagles to get better on offense with each game Wentz plays. The return of Ajayi in the backfield should also help Philly move the ball more consistently. The Titans managed to beat the Jags without much offense as Mariota is still dealing with a nerve issue. That just can’t be good. The Eagles have an opportunistic defense that can create turnovers and score points on their own. I think the Titans are fighting too much of an uphill battle today at home.
NFL Prediction: Philadelphia Eagles -3.5
