Lions struggling under Patricia

A rough preseason has led to an 0-2 start for the Detroit Lions following a 30-27 loss at San Francisco last week. The Lions managed to cover as a road underdog last week to get to 1-1 against the spread and they have hit the over in their last five games. Including the preseason, the Lions are just 2-4 against the spread.

The Lions are giving up 39 points and 381.5 yards per game thus far on defense, including 180 rushing yards per game. They do have eight sacks as a unit, but giving up a lot of chunk plays. Offensively, Detroit is putting up 22 points and 392 yards per game. They once again have one of the worst rushing attacks in the NFL, averaging just 68.5 yards per game on the ground. Matthew Stafford has thrown for 633 yards and four touchdowns, but also has four interceptions and two lost fumbles. Kenny Golladay has 203 receiving yards on 13 catches and a touchdown.

Patriots to bounce back?

The New England Patriots are coming off a surprising 31-20 loss at Jacksonville last week to drop to 1-1 on the season. They are 1-1 against the spread as well while going 1-1 with the over/under. The Pats have still covered the spread in four of their last six.

New England hasn’t looked good on defense through two games, giving up 25.5 points and 411.5 yards per game. They have managed to force four turnovers through two games. On offense, the Patriots are putting up 23.5 points and 357.5 yards per game. Tom Brady has thrown for 511 yards and five touchdowns with just one interceptions. Rob Gronkowski is the leading receiver with nine catches for 138 yards and a touchdown despite a quiet Week 2. He is dealing with an ankle injury, but is expected to play tonight.

NFL Betting Trends

Detroit

The Lions are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games on fieldturf and 5-15-1 ATS in their last 21 Week 3 games.

New England

The Patriots are 8-1 against the spread in their last nine games against losing teams. They are also 14-4 ATS in their last 18 road games.

Prediction:

The Patriots are coming off a loss and should be eager to take out their frustrations on a former assistant in Patricia. Detroit has not looked good on either side of the ball for the most part and I don’t think they are going to be magically fixed in a week, especially against the Patriots. New England should be able to win this game with ease.
