Public Betting Trends
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetNow.eu, the Panthers are 3-point favorites to beat the Bengals. The total, meanwhile, sits at 44.5 points. As of this writing, 54% of the public betting tickets are on the Rams to cover the point spread.
Cincinnati Bengals
Bengals DE Michael Johnson (knee) is questionable for Week 3 against the Panthers. Johnson reportedly suffered a multi-week injury in Week 2, but he was able to get in three limited practices this week. LB Preston Brown (ankle) is also questionable, but he seems more likely to play than Johnson.
Carolina Panthers
Panthers RG Trai Turner (concussion) is out for Week 3 against the Bengals. TE Greg Olsen (foot), WR Curtis Samuel (illness) and SS Da'Norris Searcy (concussion) have also been ruled out for Sunday while WR Damiere Byrd (knee) and CB Donte Jackson (groin) both drew the questionable tag. Turner hasn't played or practiced since suffering a concussion in Week 1. He remains week-to-week.
NFL Betting Trends
Cincinnati
The Bengals have covered four straight spreads and are 11-2 against the number in their last 13 games played in the third week of the season.
Carolina
The Panthers are 5-1 against the spread in their last six home games.
Prediction
The Panthers are beatable but their strengths match up well with the Bengals’ weaknesses. Carolina loves to throw the ball underneath with Christian McCaffrey, which is a spot where opponents can attack Cincinnati’s linebackers. The Bengals still haven’t played a full game yet, looking great in the second half in their win over the Colts in Week 1 and excellent in the first half last Thursday night in their victory over the Ravens. The Panthers are at home, coming off a loss, and should be the more desperate team for a win.
