Pats start with a win
The Patriots continued their winning ways in Week 1 of the season, picking up a 27-20 win at home over the Texans. They covered as a 6-point favorite while going under the high 49.5-point total. The Patriots have hit the under in three straight games.
New England was able to contain the Houston offense and hold the Texans to just 325 total yards and 158 passing yards. The Pats offense put up 389 yards, but had three turnovers. Tom Brady was 26 of 39 passing for 277 yards and three touchdowns while Rob Gronkowski caught seven passes for 123 yards and a touchdown. Leading rusher Rex Burkhead had 64 yards before leaving the game with a concussion. He is questionable for this week’s game.
Jags grind out win at New York
The Jaguars opened the season at New York, picking up a 20-15 win over the Giants. Jacksonville was a 2.5-point favorite in the win and the Jags went under the total in the win. They have hit the under in three of their last four games.
Jacksonville held the Giants to just 324 total yards in the win while forcing a pair of turnovers as well. Offensively, Jacksonville didn’t look great. The Jags had just 305 yards of total offense. Running back Leonard Fournette missed most of the game with a hamstring injury, but is expected to play on Sunday. Blake Bortles threw for 176 yards with a touchdown and an interception on 18 of 33 passing.
NFL Betting Trends
New England
The Patriots have hit the under in six of their last eight conference games and in four straight on the road.
Jacksonville
The Jaguars have hit the under in nine of their last 11 conference games. They have hit the over in 10 of their last 14 September games.
Prediction:
The AFC Championship Game went under the 46-point total and I think that the under hits in this game as well. The Jags are at home and have a defense that should be able to contain the Patriots and keep them from scoring consistently. Jacksonville has an offense that isn’t going to put up a high total either, especially with Fournette dealing with an injury.
NFL Prediction: Patriots/Jaguars Under 45.5
