Chiefs vs. Steelers Total Prediction

Kansas City Chiefs vs. Pittsburgh Pirates, 9/13/18 Predictions & Odds

Patrick Mahomes turned heads a week ago with his performance in L.A. Will Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs contribute enough offense to push the combined score over the betting total when they visit the Pittsburgh Steelers at 1:00 p.m. ET?

Game Snapshot

271 Kansas City Chiefs at 272 Pittsburgh Steelers

1:00 p.m. ET, Sunday, September 16

Heinz Field, Pittsburgh, PA

Public Betting Trends

According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetNow.eu, the Steelers are 4.5-point favorites to beat the Chiefs. The total, meanwhile, sits at 53.5 points. As of this writing, 67% of the public betting tickets are on the Chiefs to cover the point spread.

Kansas City Chiefs

Eric Berry (heel) did not practice Thursday. At this point, it would be a surprise if he is ready to face the Steelers on Sunday. The Chargers let the Chiefs' overmatched defense off the hook with several drops in Week 1. They are unlikely to be as lucky in Pittsburgh this week.

Pittsburgh Steelers

Ben Roethlisberger (elbow) remained sidelined on Thursday. "We’ll see how I feel tomorrow," Roethlisberger said. If Roethlisberger has an injury, he likes to keep the uncertainty high for as long as possible. We remain extremely skeptical there is any chance he will sit against the Chiefs, but any time a player misses back-to-back practices, you can't ignore it. Josh Dobbs would get the call in a gorgeous spot against the Chiefs on the off chance Ben actually sits.

NFL Betting Trends

Kansas City

The over is 9-3 in the Chiefs’ last 12 road games.

Pittsburgh

The over is 6-1 in the Steelers’ last seven home games.

Prediction

Roethlisberger is dealing with the elbow injury but it’s highly unlikely that he doesn’t play (he has a habit of suggesting he’s too injured to play, only to show up on Sunday and receive accolades for gutting it out). Assuming he does play, he’ll benefit from facing a Kansas City defense that allowed 7.3 yards per play last week to the Chargers in L.A. While the Steelers only allowed 3.8 yards per play themselves, that came against a Browns team that had a new quarterback, a new offensive coordinator, new faces on offense and in poor weather. Big Ben often lights it up at home and this should be a shootout on Sunday.

NFL Week 2 Prediction: Steelers/Chiefs over 53.5
