Lions slaughtered at home

The Lions continued an awful preseason with an awful opener at home in Week 1. They lost 48-17 at home against the Jets in Matt Patricia’s debut with the team. The Lions were a 7-point favorite for the game and they hit the over of 44 points. They have failed to cover in four of their last five.

Detroit looked like a team that quit on their new head coach, as they gave up 31 points to the Jets in the third quarter. The Jets finished the game with 349 total yards of offense and the Lions had five turnovers Offensively, Detroit had 339 yards, but just 39 rushing yards as they continued to struggle on the ground. Matthew Stafford threw for 286 yards on 27 of 46 passing, but had four interceptions. Receiver Kenny Golladay had seven receptions for 114 yards.

49ers fall at Minnesota

The 49ers suffered a 24-16 loss at Minnesota to open the season, which snapped a five-game regular season win streak. The 49ers failed to cover the spread, as they were a 6-point underdog. San Francisco went under the 46.5-point total as well. They are 0-4-1 against the spread in their last five games.

San Francisco struggled with Minnesota’s defense last week. The 49ers had four turnovers and were held to 327 total yards. Jimmy Garoppolo threw for 261 yards on 15 of 33 passing with one touchdown and three interceptions. The rushing game had just 90 yards on 25 carries. Defensively, DeForest Buckner had 2.5 sacks and 3.5 tackles for loss in the game.

NFL Betting Trends

Detroit

The Lions are 8-2 against the spread in their last 10 games following a double-digit loss at home. They are 4-11-1 ATS in their last 16 games on grass.

San Francisco

The 49ers are 4-11 against the spread in their last 15 home games and 1-4 ATS in their last five Week 2 games.

Prediction:

The Lions looked absolutely awful on Monday night and they have a short turnaround to go out West. San Francisco was at least competitive with the Vikings on the road. The San Fran ground game should run through the Lions while Jimmy G makes passes when he needs to. The Lions can’t run the ball, which puts a lot of pressure on Stafford and he seems to be struggling with a new head coach.
