San Francisco 49ers Fantasy Spin
Jimmy Garoppolo completed 18-of-27 passes for 166 yards, one touchdown, and one pick in San Francisco's Week 1 win over the Bucs. San Francisco's defense led the way with 14 points of their own as Garoppolo struggled early and often, tossing his first and only touchdown pass on the day to slot wideout Richie James to open the second half. Jimmy G missed several open receivers downfield and gifted his own pick-six to the Bucs, but also dealt with bad luck in having two would-be touchdowns to George Kittle (8/54) called back for offensive holding penalties. Despite looming question marks regarding Garoppolo's efficiency moving forward, he'll remain a top-20 option against Cincinnati's swiss-cheese secondary in Week 2.
Cincinnati Bengals Fantasy Spin
Andy Dalton completed 35-of-51 passes for 418 yards and two touchdowns in the Bengals' 21-20 loss to the Seahawks. Dalton and the Bengals' offense completed scrapped the rushing game after Joe Mixon left with an ankle injury. Dalton was surprisingly quite effective without A.J. Green, especially when targeting John Ross, who popped for a huge 7-158-2 receiving line. Yes, you read that correctly. Depending on Mixon's severity, the Bengals may be pass-heavy once again in Week 2 when the Bengals take on the 49ers at home. Dalton will be a QB2 option then. Overall, this was a semi-encouraging performance in one of the toughest road stadiums from new head coach Zac Taylor.
NFL Betting Trends
San Francisco
The over is 6-1 in the 49ers’ last seven games following a win and is 5-2 in their last seven games following an ATS win.
Cincinnati
The under is 4-0-2 in the Bengals’ last six games overall.
Prediction
Dalton played much better than expected, especially without Green and after losing Mixon to injury. Seattle is a tough place to play and while the Seahawks don’t have the same talent on defense that they did in their back-to-back Super Bowl runs, that’s still a steady squad. Dalton may have already taken to Zac Taylor’s new offense. On the other side, as the Rotoworld fantasy blurb noted above, Garoppolo should have led the Niners to more touchdowns last Sunday in Tampa. I think this game has sneaky over potential.
