Super Bowl 53 Over/Under Drops Again

Super Bowl 53 Over/Under Drops Again, 2/3/19 Patriots Still Favored by 2.5

The over/under for Super Bowl 53 between the Patriots and Rams has dropped again at most sportsbooks. While the total remains one of the highest in Super Bowl history, there has been enough action on the under for oddsmakers to drop the over/under a full two points of the opening number.

Game Snapshot

101 New England Patriots at 102 Los Angeles Rams

Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta, Georgia

According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetNow.eu, the Patriots remain 2.5-point favorites to knock off the Rams tonight in Atlanta. Los Angeles opened as a 1-point favorite when the line was first released but a flood of action on New England forced oddsmakers to adjust in a hurry. The line jumped the fence to Patriots -1, then all the way up to 2.5, which is where it settled for over a week.

For a brief window on Friday, the point spread did climb to the key number of 3, but that was short-lived. Within a few hours, oddsmakers dropped the spread back down to 2.5, likely because sharp bettors bounced on the Rams getting a field goal. It would appear as though the spread will hold at 2.5 heading into kickoff at 6:30 p.m. ET this evening.

While the spread has seemingly settled, the total has not. Within the last 24 hours, the total dropped from 56.5 at most books, to 56. On Championship Sunday, the Super Bowl over/under opened at 58 but was immediately bet down to 57.5. It wasn’t long before oddsmakers dropped the number down a full point to 56.5 and now it’s down to 56.

As of this writing, 73% of the betting tickets are on the Patriots and so is 71% of the money. The under received the majority of betting tickets last week but as of Sunday morning, 56% of the betting tickets are on the over and the money is now split 50-50 when it comes to the total.
