Bears vs. Eagles Spread Prediction
The Eagles made a miracle run in December to crash the postseason party, once again thanks in large part to backup Nick Foles. Can the defending champs keep their season alive by pulling off an upset in Chicago Sunday against the Bears at 4:40 p.m. ET?
Game Snapshot
107 Philadelphia Eagles at 108 Chicago Bears
4:40 p.m. ET, Sunday, January 6, 2019
Soldier Field, Chicago, Illinois
Public Betting Trends
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetNow.eu, the Bears are 6.5-point favorites to beat the Eagles. The total, meanwhile, sits at 41.5 points. As of this writing, 55% of the public betting tickets are on the Eagles to cover the point spread.
Philadelphia Eagles
Nick Foles (ribs) wasn't listed on the Eagles' final injury report for Sunday's Wild Card game against the Bears. Foles exited Week 17 with bruised ribs but the injury was never thought to be serious. He practiced fully on both Thursday and Friday after beginning the week as a limited participant. Foles gets a tough draw against the Bears' league-best defense this week, though we've learned not to doubt him after leading the Eagles to Super Bowl glory last season.
Chicago Bears
Trey Burton (groin) is questionable for Sunday's Wild Card game against the Eagles. Burton wasn't on Chicago's injury report at all throughout the week, so the fact he was suddenly added late Saturday evening doesn't bode well for his availability on Sunday. Adam Shaheen would be the pivot to target in fantasy if Burton is ultimately ruled out.
NFL Betting Trends
Philadelphia
The Eagles have covered four of their last five games overall but are 1-4 ATS in their last five Wild Card games.
Chicago
The Bears are a perfect 4-0 against the number in their last four games overall and are 16-4-1 against the spread in their last 21 home games.
Prediction
Foles (ribs) is banged-up and the Eagles are still down several pieces in their secondary. That said, they’ve been dealing with injuries all year and they still managed to reach the postseason (with a lot of help from these same Bears) when everyone left them for dead after Carson Wentz got hurt again. The Eagles have thrived for two years in the underdog role, winning all three of their postseason games outright a year ago as a dog. These two teams run similar offenses and while Chicago has a clear edge on defense, Philadelphia still has a deep and talented stable of pass-rushers to force mistakes out of Mitchell Trubisky. The underdog is also 9-4 against the spread in the last 13 meetings and while the Eagles might not win today in the Windy City, I do like them to at least cover.
NFL Wild Card Prediction: Philadelphia Eagles +6.5
