Washington State Cougars Game Notes
Washington State sophomore QB Jayden de Laura completed 13-of-22 passes for 259 yards and four touchdowns in a 44-18 win over Arizona on Friday night. de Laura (6’0/190) looked very comfortable in the pocket tonight for the Cougars, which was especially impressive considering the fog that lingered most of the night. His most impressive throws of the game were touchdowns to Calvin Jackson Jr. The first one was a go route that he dropped right in the breadbasket of Jackson Jr that put the Cougars up 14-0. The second came in heavy fog, where de Laura hit a streaking Jackson on a crossing pattern about 20 yards down the field in-stride for a 78-yard touchdown pass. If the Cougars keep the run-n-shoot offense next season, de Laura could easily be one of the statistical leaders at the quarterback position. The Cougars finish out their season next Friday against Washington in the Apple Cup.
Washington Huskies Game Notes
Washington redshirt freshman QB Dylan Morris QB completed 35-of-52 passes for 387 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions in Saturday’s 20-17 loss to Colorado. Morris (6’0/210) has struggled for most of the year, and it was questioned whether he would remain the starter. This was a very distracting week for Morris and Huskies as they had to prepare for a road game under a new head coach because of the firing of Jimmy Lake. It was probably the smart move to keep the experienced Morris under center during this transition. It did not start off well as the Huskies were on Colorado’s four-yard line, Morris would fumble the snap, the ball would be kicked in the line of scrimmage and back to about the 13-yard line before Jack Lamb would take it to the house for a Colorado touchdown. Morris got Washington on the board late in the second quarter when he threw an absolute bullet to Rome Odunze, and he was able to cut in for the eight-yard touchdown. Throughout the second half, the Huskies were moving the ball but made crucial mistakes that prevented them from getting points. In the second half, Morris had two interceptions, they had another fumble for a loss and a missed field goal. Still, they stayed in this game against a bad Colorado offense, and Morris was able to put the Huskies within a field goal after connecting with Ja’Lynn Polk for 55 yards. They stopped Colorado and had a chance to at least tie this game, but Morris would throw three incompletions and come short on a 4th and 10. Washington (4-7, PAC-12 3-5) will finish the regular season as they host Washington State for the Apple Cup.
