Minor throws seven shutout innings
Texas shut to host Cleveland to the tune of 1-0 Monday night in the series opener. The Rangers scored the game's lone run on a sacrifice fly by Nomar Mazara that scored Elvis Andrus in the fourth inning. Mazara finished the contest 1-for-3 with the RBI. Andrus went 2-for-4 with a triple and a runs scored. Jeff Mathis ended the game 1-for-3 with a double. Mike Minor allowed no runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts and one walk over seven innings to earn the win. Jose Leclerc notched the save as he gave up one hit with no strikeouts or walks in a scoreless frame. Ariel Jurado draws the start tonight as he enters with a 6-6 record, 4.92 ERA and 1.43 WHIP with 64 strikeouts over 86 innings pitched.
Indians unable to find offense
Cleveland lost 1-0 at home Monday night against Texas to drop to 66-46 overall and 36-24 at home. Jordan Luplow helped pace the Indians offense as he finished 2-for-3 while Yasiel Puig was 2-for-4. Carlos Santana ended the game 1-for-3 plus a walk. Aaron Civale took the loss on the mound as he gave up one earned run on three hits with seven strikeouts and one walk over six innings of work. Zach Plesac gets the start tonight for Cleveland as he comes in with a 6-3 record, 3.41 ERA and 1.15 WHIP with 47 strikeouts over 66 innings.
MLB Betting Trends
Texas
The Rangers are 19-7 in their last 26 games versus the AL Central. Texas is 1-4 in the last five Jurado starts.
Cleveland
The Indians are 4-0 in the last four Plesac home starts. Cleveland is 37-16 in its last 53 games overall.
Prediction:
Cleveland had more hits two nights ago, but could not figure out how to cross the plate. I think it will fair better against Jurado, who has a low strikeout rate and facing a team eager to rebound with a strong effort. Plesac has been efficient all season and I expect that to continue. The Indians haven't lost very often over the last couple months and I like them as favorites here.
