Yankees' Tanaka delivers three-hit shutout vs. Rays
Masahiro Tanaka pitched a three-hitter for his third career shutout Tuesday against the Rays. Tanaka struck out nine and walked one in the 105-pitch gem. Not only was it his first complete game of the year, but it was the first time in 16 starts that he had finished even seven innings. The nine strikeouts also matched his season high. He moved to 8-2 with a 4.09 ERA.
Red Sox' Price holds Phillies to one run over 8 innings
David Price yielded just one run on eight hits over eight innings while taking a no-decision in Monday's 2-1, 13-inning win over the Phillies. Price struck out five and walked one on the evening. He allowed more baserunners than you'd like to see, but this was a strong overall showing nonetheless. The veteran left-hander has now pitched into or through the seventh inning in each of his last three starts. On the whole, Price is working to a 3.97 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 119/36 K/BB ratio across 21 starts covering 122 1/3 innings. A home dance against the Yankees on Sunday Night Baseball shows next on his schedule. That's been a horror show of a matchup for Price in the past, but he's at least heading toward that fateful date fresh off a rock-solid performance.
MLB Betting Trends
New York
The Yankees have won 20 of Tanaka's last 28 starts.
Boston
The Red Sox have won 12 of Price's last 14 starts and are 6-0 in his last six home starts.
Prediction:
The Yankees have tuned up Price in the past and with them receiving plus odds, they're worth the risk tonight. The Red Sox might smell blood in the water but they're 1-4 in Price's last five starts versus the Yankees. The Bronx Bombers are also 5-1 in Tanaka's last six starts versus the American League East and are 8-3 in his last 11 road outings.
The Pick: New York Yankees +120
