Johan Oviedo spun five frames of one-run ball but was saddled with a no-decision Tuesday against the Cubs. Oviedo hit two batters, but he didn't issue any unintentional walks, which is saying something for a guy who entered the night having walked 30 over 53 frames. The Cubs managed just three hits -- all singles -- off Oviedo, who struck out five and induced 12 swinging strikes. Manager Mike Shildt elected to pull Oviedo after a leadoff single in the sixth even though he was only at 79 pitches. It worked for a while, but the Cubs rallied for six runs in the ninth, costing Oviedo his first major league win. Shildt noted after the game that Oviedo had been dealing with a bit of a finger issue, but it doesn't seem like anything that will keep him from starting in Cincinnati on Sunday.

Joey Votto swatted a solo home run on Saturday as the Reds triumphed over the Cardinals. Votto victimized Cardinals starter Jake Woodford with a 350-foot blast in the fifth inning to extend the Reds lead to 4-1. It was his lone hit in four at-bats on the night. The 37-year-old first baseman is now slashing .266/.359/.480 with 13 homers and 45 RBI on the season.
