Seven-run frame propels Red Sox
Boston scored seven runs in the top of the third inning Monday night en route to a 9-4 victory at Tampa Bay. J.D. Martinez paced the Red Sox offense as he finished 2-for-5 with a home run, a double and four RBIs. Andrew Benintendi went 3-for-5 with a solo home and a double. Sam Travis ended the contest 1-for-4 with a solo homer. Eduardo Rodriguez threw seven shutout innings as he allowed two hits, struck out six and walked four to post the win. Chris Sale draws the start tonight as he enters with a 4-9 record, 4.05 ERA and 1.08 WHIP with 172 strikeouts over 117 2/3 innings.
Rays crushed in opener
Tampa Bay used a position player to pitch in Mike Brosseau down five in the top of the ninth inning to help a beleaguered bullpen during a 9-4 home loss to Boston Monday night. Jalen Beeks took the loss on the mound as he was shelled for eight earned runs on seven hits over 3 2/3 innings, striking out two and walking two. Travis d'Arnaud helped lead the Rays offense as he finished 2-for-4 with a double plus a walk and an RBI. Guillermo Heredia went 2-for-4 and scored a run. Yandy Diaz was 1-for-4 with a walk and an RBI. Yonny Chirinos gets the start tonight as he comes in with an 8-5 record, 3.29 ERA and 1.02 WHIP with 97 strikeouts over 112 innings pitched.
MLB Betting Trends
Boston
The Red Sox are 28-11 in their last 39 road games. Boston is 0-5 in the last five Sale Tuesday starts.
Tampa Bay
The Rays are 1-5 in their last six Tuesday games. Tampa Bay is 1-6 in the last seven Chirinos starts.
Prediction:
Sale has been inconsistent all season, but found his groove in a brilliant start his last time out. With the Rays struggling right now and still having a bit of a fatigued relief corps, I like the Red Sox to take advantage here. Chirinos should keep the hosts in the game, but I like Boston to come out on top again.
