Mets shut out in finale

New York lost 2-0 Thursday night at the Dodgers to drop three out of four in the series and fall to 27-29 overall plus 12-20 on the road. Pete Alonso helped pace the offense as he finished 1-for-3 with a double. Wilson Ramos went 1-for-1 with a pinch-hit single. Tomas Nido ended the contest 1-for-3. Jason Vargas suffered the loss as he allowed one earned run on six hits with six strikeouts and three walks over seven innings. Zack Wheeler will start tonight for New York as he enters with a 4-3 record, 4.63 ERA and 1.31 WHIP with 78 strikeouts over 70 innings.

D-backs fall in 10 innings

Arizona lost in 10 innings by a score of 11-10 Thursday afternoon at New York to fall to 28-29 overall and 17-16 on the road. Eduardo Escobar helped lead the offense as he finished 2-for-5 with a home run, two runs and three RBIs. Adam Jones went 2-for-5 with a double, two runs and an RBI. Christian Walker was 2-for-5 with a home run, two runs and two RBIs. Starting pitcher Taylor Clarke helped his own cause by going 1-for-1 with a solo home run. Carson Kelly ended the game 3-for-5 with an RBI. Yoshihisa Hirano took the loss in relief as he allowed one earned run on two hits with one strikeout and one walk over two-thirds of an inning. MLB Betting Trends

New York

The Mets are 4-1 in their last five games versus a right-handed starter. New York is 1-4 in the last five Wheeler road starts.

Arizona

The Diamondbacks are 4-1 in their last five Friday games. Arizona is 2-5 in the last seven meetings.

Prediction:

Wheeler has been pretty good as of late as he's starting to rebound from early-season struggles. I like his chances against an Arizona team that will be adjusting from the thin air of Coors Field. With the pitching matchup heavily favoring the Mets, I like their chances to get the victory on the road tonight.

MLB DAILY PREDICTION: NEW YORK METS -116
