Mark Melancon allowed one hit and struck out one batter in a scoreless tenth inning to record the save against the Brewers on Wednesday. Melancon came out for the tenth inning after the Padres took a one-run lead in the top of the frame. He gave up a base hit to Willy Adames to put runners at the corners. Jackie Bradley would then hit a grounder to the second baseman, and Jake Cronenworth threw out Keston Hiura at the plate. Melancon struck out the next batter and got Kolten Wong to ground out to end the game. The 36-year-old veteran right-hander is up to 17 saves on the year with a 0.81 ERA.

Adrian Houser gave up six runs in four-plus innings Friday in a loss to the Reds. Even though Houser gave up a single to Jesse Winker in the first and a homer in the third, the Reds kept him in to face the top of the lineup a third time in the fifth, Winker hit another homer, and Nick Castellanos and Tyler Stephenson went on to reach, too, before Houser was lifted. It's the first time this year that Houser has given up more than three earned runs in a start. He hasn't always been stellar, but he usually benefits from quick hooks. He's currently 3-5 with a 4.53 ERA.
