Meadows HR sends Rays to win
Austin Meadows hit a solo home run in the top of the 11th inning Saturday afternoon as Tampa Bay downed New York by a count of 2-1 to move back into first place in the AL East. It was the only hit for Meadows in five at-bats. Brandon Lowe finished 1-for-4 with a solo home run. Ji-Man Choi went 2-for-5 with a double. Jose Alvarado earned the win relief as he gave up one hit and struck out one over one scoreless inning. Charlie Morton will start today for Tampa Bay as he comes in with a 4-0 record, 2.32 ERA and 1.13 WHIP plus 61 strikeouts over 50 1/3 innings.
Yanks fall in 11 innings
New York could not muster much offense Saturday afternoon in a 2-1 home defeat against Tampa Bay in 11 innings. Luis Cessa suffered the loss in relief as he gave up one earned run on two hits with one strikeout and no walks over one inning of work. Brett Gardner helped pace the Yankees offense as he went 1-for-2 and scored a run. Gio Urshela ended the contest 2-for-4, while Aaron Hicks finished 2-for-5. Chad Green will start for New York in a bullpen game today as he enters with an 0-2 record, 13.97 ERA and 2.28 WHIP with 10 strikeouts over 9 2/3 innings.
MLB Betting Trends
Tampa Bay
The Rays are 11-2 in their last 13 Sunday games. Tampa Bay is 24-9 in its last 33 road games.
New York
The Yankees are 4-0 in their last four Sunday games. New York is 19-7 in its last 26 games overall.
Prediction:
The Yankees will have to hope Green can find his form from last season again or the Rays could take a quick lead over the first inning or two. While New York's bullpen has been mostly strong, I trust Morton more to get through six innings and turn the game over to his bullpen with a lead. Tampa Bay is legit this season and I think it leaves New York still in first place.
