McGrady to sit out Houston's next two games to rehab knee
ASSOCIATED PRESS

HOUSTON -- Tracy McGrady will miss Houston's next two games to rest his ailing left knee.

McGrady missed the second half of the Rockets' 97-92 loss to Orlando on Dec. 19 with soreness in the knee. He sat out Houston's loss to Denver the next night.

He played a total of 50 minutes in Houston's last two games, a win in Chicago on Dec. 22 and a loss to Detroit on Dec. 23.

An MRI exam performed on Monday revealed swollen tendons in the knee, but no structural damage.

The Rockets play Memphis on Friday and Toronto on Saturday. McGrady is expected to return for Houston's game against Golden State on New Year's Eve.

McGrady is the NBA's 10th leading scorer, averaging 22.8 points per game. He also leads the Rockets with 5.1 assists per game.

Also Thursday, Yao Ming missed practice with flulike symptoms, but the team said he is expected to play on Friday.

UNC's Frasor tears ACL
December 27th, 2007

Chapel Hill, NC (Sports Network) - North Carolina reserve guard Bobby Frasor will miss the rest of the season after suffering a torn ACL in his left knee during Thursday's 106-70 win over Nevada.

Frasor suffered the injury midway through the second half when he stepped awkwardly going for a loose ball.

"You sort of lose the thrill when you see a kid like Bobby Frasor [get hurt], said UNC head coach Roy Williams.

"He's like a coach," added Williams. "I don't know what he wants to do, but if he decides that he wants to be a coach, he's going to be a great coach because he has tremendous savvy. He can handle this. It's not going to be easy. It's not easy for any of us right now."

Frasor averaged 3.2 points per game this season, appearing in all 12 games with one start for the top-ranked Tar Heels.

Re: Betting News and Notes - Dec 28

Utah (16-14, 14-15-1 ATS) at L.A. Lakers (18-10, 17-11 ATS)

After a brief, yet successful, one-game stop at home, it’s back out on the highway for the Jazz as they battle Kobe Bryant and the red-hot Lakers.

Utah came off a four-game, six-day East Coast road trip and downed Dallas 99-90 on Wednesday, cashing as a three-point home chalk. The Jazz have played nine of their 13 December games on the road, going 1-8 SU and 2-7 ATS. Overall, Utah is mired in a 3-9 slump (4-8 ATS).

The Lakers have won three in a row and nine of their last 11, going 8-3 ATS during this stretch. On Christmas Day, Los Angeles rode Bryant (38 points) and young center Andrew Bynum (career-high 28 points, 12 rebounds) to a 122-115 upset victory over Phoenix as a 2½-point home underdog.

These teams have split their two meetings this season, with the home team scoring a double-digit rout in each contest. The Lakers won 119-109 as a one-point home underdog on Nov. 4, but Utah got revenge in a 120-96 romp as a 7½-point home chalk on Nov. 30. The host is 6-1 SU and ATS in the last seven clashes, and the straight-up winner has cashed in each of the last 10 meetings.

Going back to last year, the Jazz are just 11-27 ATS on the road, including 6-12 SU and ATS outside of Salt Lake City this year. Meanwhile, Los Angeles has won four straight home games (3-1 ATS), improving to 10-4 on the season at the Staples Center (9-5 ATS).

The straight-up winner is 16-2 ATS in Utah road games and 11-3 ATS in Lakers home contests.

Utah is on a 7-2 ATS roll against Pacific Division foes.

Los Angeles is 6-2 ATS in its last eight Friday games.

The under is 7-2 in Utah’s last nine overall, but the over is 3-1 in the Lakers’ last four home games, 4-1 in the last five series meetings overall and 5-1 in the last six clashes in L.A.

ATS ADVANTAGE: L.A. LAKERS and OVER

Denver (17-11, 13-15 ATS) at Golden State (17-12, 14-15 ATS)

The streaking Warriors take on the Nuggets for the first time this season in a Western Conference matchup between teams searching for their third straight win.

Golden State held off the Timberwolves 105-101 on Wednesday, but came up way short as a 12½-point home chalk. The Warriors are 4-1 in their last five overall and 17-6 since starting the year with six straight losses. However, they’re just 4-7 ATS in their last 11 overall, including 1-3 ATS in their last four at home.

Denver routed the Bucks 125-105 as an 8½-point home favorite on Wednesday. The Nuggets have won two in a row and six out of nine, and they’ve followed up an 0-5 ATS drought with three consecutive spread-covers.

Golden State snapped a four-game losing skid (1-3 ATS) to the Nuggets last March, prevailing 110-96 as a seven-point home favorite. Denver is still on a 7-2 run in this rivalry (6-3 ATS). Also, the favorite and the home team have cashed in 10 of the last 14 meetings.

The Nuggets are 5-7 SU and ATS on the road, including 2-5 in the last seven (3-4 ATS).

Since losing their first four home games, the Warriors have won eight of nine at Oracle Arena, including the last five in a row. However, they’re just 6-7 ATS in their building, including 3-6 ATS as a home chalk.

The Warriors are 10-4 ATS when playing on one day of rest, but only 2-6 ATS in their last eight against the Northwest Division.

The under is 7-1-1 in Golden State’s last eight games. However, the over is 4-1 in Denver’s last five, 9-2 in the last 11 series battles, and 10-2 in the last 12 meetings at Oracle Arena.

WELCOME BACK

Ray Allen scored 10 points in Boston's 104-96 victory over the SuperSonics on Thursday night. Allen was playing his first game in Seattle since a draft night trade that sent the seven-time All-Star to the Celtics. SLUMPING

Phoenix defeated the Clippers 108-88 on Thursday night to hand Los Angeles its fifth straight loss and 14th in 17 games.

PROMOTED

Jim Boylan was promoted Thursday to interim head coach of the Chicago Bulls, who fired Scott Skiles on Monday after the team's disappointing start. Boylan was in his fourth season as an assistant under Skiles and has 14 years experience in the NBA but none as a head coach at the pro level.

SPEAKING

''I took some blows tonight. I don't come out of the game. I'm fine. I shake it off and go to the next play. That didn't stop me once I got hit the first time from going back into the interior. It isn't going to stop me.'' - LeBron James after leading the Cavaliers to a 88-81 win at Dallas on Thursday night.
