This was the fourth meeting between these two with Pacquiao winning the last two meetings and the first encounter being ruled a draw. Pacquiao had never won by unanimous decision over Marquez, earning a split decision and majority decision in his victories over Marquez.

In this contest, after a slow start for Marquez, he managed to get a knockdown of Pacquiao in the third round. Marquez caught Pacquiao with an overhand right to get the knockdown. Despite the big punch, Pacquiao regrouped, earning a knockdown of Marquez in the fifth.

It was the sixth round that saw the fight come to an end as Marquez knocked Pacquiao out cold to earn the victory. Marquez caught Pacquiao with the big right again to put an end to the fight with just one second left in the round.

According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Marquez came into the bout with odds of +230 to beat Pacquiao, which means a wager of $100 on Marquez will pay out an additional $230.
