Auburn Season Odds
AUBURN, AL (TheSpread) – Despite just 8 wins in the 2014 season, many oddsmakers like the Auburn Tigers to be a top contender to win the national title in 2015. Here is a breakdown of this year’s squad.
According to oddsmakers at GTBets, Auburn is currently listed with 9/1 odds to win the College Football Playoffs this upcoming season. The Tigers are also listed with odds of +350 to win the SEC Championship and Auburn has an over/under of 8.5 wins for the 2015 season.
Gust Malzahn is entering his third season with Auburn. He led the Tigers to a 12-2 record in 2013 including an SEC title and appearance in the BCS Championship Game. In 2014, Auburn took a step back, going 8-5 overall and just 4-4 in the SEC. The Tigers lost four of their final five games, including a 34-31 OT loss to Wisconsin in the Outback Bowl.
Auburn had a pretty good offense in 2014, averaging 35.5 points and 485 yards per game. The defense struggled though, allowing 26.7 points per game, which ranked 63rd nationally. Auburn loses a lot of key players from this offense, most notably Nick Marshall and Cameron Artis-Payne. Payne rushed for 1,608 yards and 13 TDs in 2014 while Marshal threw for 2,532 yards and 20 scores while rushing for 798 yards and 11 touchdowns. Jeremy Johnson is expected to take over the offense at QB for Auburn, but he has seen limited action in two seasons with the team.
Auburn starts the season with a real challenge when it faces Louisville at the Georgia Dome. The Tigers then host Jacksonville State before kicking off SEC play at LSU. The other two non-conference games are with San Jose State and Idaho at home. Other SEC road games are with Kentucky, Arkansas and Texas A&M while the Tigers host Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Georgia and Alabama. While Auburn gets to host the toughest SEC opponents, winning all four of those games seems like it could be a stretch. The Louisville opener will also be tough and trips to LSU, A&M and Arkansas are no guarantees. Auburn has a lot of questions for having so much hype coming into 2015.
