Appalachian State Mountaineers Game Notes

Appalachian State redshirt junior QB Chase Brice completed 20-of-28 passes for 326 yards and three touchdowns in Saturday’s 45-16 win over Georgia State. Brice and his team struggled in the first half, and the Mountaineers only led 14-6 at halftime. But Brice turned it on in the second half, including touchdown throws to Corey Sutton for 79 yards in the third quarter and Christian Wells for 80 in the fourth quarter. After spending a few years on Clemson’s bench, Brice won Duke’s starting job last year. But he posted a rancid 10/15 TD/INT ratio and split with the school after the season ended, ultimately resurfacing in Boone. Appalachian State (4-1) gets Louisiana next week.

Smith (5'9/194) played a big role in the Ragin Cajuns' most recent 2018 victory over the South Alabama Jaguars. He receiver Sun Belt Special Teams Player of the Week honors after he put up the first score of the game on his team's first possession of the contest. The drive only had to go for three plays thanks to his own 87-yard kickoff return to open things up. Smith has been on the right track, with three rushing touchdowns and 252 rushing yards through the first five weeks.
