John Gibson turned away 25 of 28 shots during Friday’s 3-2 loss to Vancouver. He certainly deserved a better fate on the night but his record falls to 19-11-3 regardless. With Frederik Andersen out with a concussion, Gibson will continue to draw starts for a depleted Anaheim team. The Ducks are already missing David Perron and defensemen Kevin Bieksa and Simon Despres due to injuries, and also announced that Rickard Rakell is on the shelf as well.
The Stars have won four in a row and seven of their last eight and are closing in on the Central Division title. Kari Lehtonen stopped 24-of-26 shots in Saturday’s 3-2 win over the Kings and is expected to sit tonight as Antti Niemi starts between the pipes for Dallas. Niemi was sharp on Thursday night, blocking 31 of 32 shots to help the Stars defeat the Coyotes, 4-1.
