Week 2 Betting Recap

Week 2 in the NFL offered a couple blowouts, upsets and of course, surprises. Here’s our recap of the betting action in Week 2.

Bet NFL Week 3

So far this season, away teams have covered 61.29% of the time (19-12). Home teams are just 12-19 and have covered the spread 38.71% of the time. The favorite also has a losing record at 14-17 (45.16%), while the away underdogs are covering 60.87% of the time at 14-9. Away favorites are 5-3 (62.50%).

The over/under totals are almost identical as 16 overs have covered to 15 unders.

Jets beat Pats outright as 3.5-point underdogs

In one of the better games of the weekend, rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez and the New York Jets hosted Tom Brady and the New England Patriots as 3.5-point underdogs and won outright, 16-9. The combined points of 44.5 fell under the posted total of 10.5. Sanchez finished with 168 yards, while Brady posted 216.

Bengals shock Packers as road underdogs

Perhaps the most stunning upset of Week 2 came from the Cincinnati Bengals-Green Bay Packers game. The Bengals were 9-point road underdogs, yet thanks to Cedric Benson’s 141 rushing yards and Antwan Odom’s five sacks, they beat the Packers outright 31-24. The two teams combined for 55 points, which sailed over the posted total of 41.5.

Redskins win first game, but fail to cover vs. Rams

The Washington Redskins earned their first victory of the year against the St. Louis Rams on Sunday, but failed to cover the 8-point spread as favorites. Jason Campbell threw for 242 yards in the Redskins’ 9-7 win, while Rams’ QB Marc Bulger had just 123 passing yards. The combined point total of 16 fell well below the posted total of 37.

Giants edge Cowboys, cover spread

The New York Giants spoiled Jerry Jones’ opening of his new stadium by beating his Dallas Cowboys 33-31 on Sunday night. Eli Manning threw for 330 yards, which crushed Tony Romo’s passing total of 127. Thanks to Lawrence Tynes’ game-winning field goal, the Giants covered the 3-point spread, while the point total of 64 flew over the posted total of 44.5
