Week 1 Betting Recap

As expected, there were a couple of surprises in the gambling world during the opening week of the NFL.

Bet NFL Week 2

In Week 1, the away teams were 9-5 against the spread, covering 64.29% of the time. The favorites were 8-6 in Week 1 and the away favorites were 3-0. Home dogs were surprisingly 0-3, while away dogs were 6-5.

49ers win straight up as 6-point road dogs

The San Francisco 49ers went into Arizona on Sunday as 6-point road underdogs and had to watch as the Cardinals raised their 2009 NFC Championship banners. But when the dust settled, the Niners came away with a 20-16 victory thanks to a defense that held the Cardinals to just 40 yards of rushing. The 36 combined points also fell under the posted total of 45.5.

Eagles easily cover as road favorites

The Philadelphia Eagles entered Sunday’s game with the Carolina Panthers as 1-point road favorites according to oddsmakers from online sports book BetOnline and left Charlotte with an impressive 38-10 victory. Unfortunately for the Eagles, they lost quarterback Donovan McNabb to a rib injury in the third quarter. He’ll miss Philly’s next game against the Saints in Week 2. But when McNabb is healthy, he proved against the Panthers that Philadelphia is going to be tough to beat. The combined 48 points went over the posted total of 43.5.

Bills lose in New England, but easily cover as road dogs

The Buffalo Bills were massive 13-point road underdogs Monday night in New England, yet easily covered the spread while losing to the Patriots 25-24. If it weren’t for a Leodis McKelvin fumbled kickoff return with just over two minutes remaining in the game, the Bills would have likely won this game outright, which is amazing considering that Buffalo has not beaten New England since early this decade.

Jets cover in Houston as road underdogs

On Sunday, the New York Jets started a rookie quarterback in Mark Sanchez against a Houston Texans team that many believe is a sleeper playoff candidate. As 5-point road underdogs, Sanchez and the Jets smoked the Texans 24-7 and easily covered the spread. The combined 31 points also went under the posted total of 44.5.
