49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said he expects Jimmy Garoppolo to be the starting quarterback in 2021. The saying goes, "If you have to ask if he's the franchise quarterback, then he's not the franchise quarterback." With Garoppolo missing time with injuries and capping the upside of the offense when healthy, there's speculation that Shanahan will at least be willing to swipe right on a new quarterback this offseason. The 49ers can easily get out of his contract but that will depend on which quarterbacks become available in the draft, in free agency, and in trades. For now, Shanahan will be band-aiding an offense led by Nick Mullens while Garoppolo rehabs his high-ankle sprain. Garoppolo could return sometime in December.

Jared Goff completed 39-of-51 passes for 346 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions in the Rams' 27-24, Week 11 win over the Bucs Monday night. Goff's 346 yards were his second-most of the season, and he's now posted three straight 300-yard games while his three scores matched a season-best in a year the Rams have been super run-heavy. Facing the league's No. 1 run defense in this one, coach Sean McVay dialed up an extreme pass-happy game plan, getting the ball out of Goff's hand quick and into the hands of Cooper Kupp and Robert Woods, who combined for 23-275-1 on 28 targets. Goff still tossed a couple boneheaded picks as he does every now and then, but he was killing this defense with quick-hitters. His other two touchdowns went to rookies Van Jefferson and Cam Akers. Goff will be more of a QB2 next week at home against the 49ers.
49ers vs. Rams Betting Prediction
The 49ers are 7-3 against the spread in their last 10 games versus the Rams and have also cashed in five of their last seven games in Los Angeles. The underdog has also cashed in seven of the last 10 meetings in this series, while the Niners have covered in four of their last five games after allowing less than 150 yards passing in their previous contest. On the other side, the Rams are just 5-11-2 against the spread in their last 18 home games versus a team with a losing road record and are coming off a short week of rest and preparation after playing on Monday night in Tampa.
