After opening the season with a 44-14 win over Youngstown State, Penn State lost to top-ranked Alabama on the road, 24-3. The Nittany Lions were held to 283 yards of offense and had four turnovers in the loss. Freshman quarterback Robert Bolden was just 13-for-29 passing for 144 yards and two interceptions. Evan Royster rushed for just 32 yards in the loss as well.

Kent State is 1-1 on the year after losing 26-13 at Boston College last weekend. The Golden Flashes had five turnovers in the loss with just 205 yards of offense. Kent State had just 4 yards rushing as a team in the loss, but the defense did hold the Eagles to 305 yards of offense.
